If the Leaf's need retained they would need to work out the compensation for that with the 3rd team</div></div>
I think Lilly and a 1st for Pesce is a touch light, but not millions of miles away. Toronto would also need to be the team paying for retention. This tried to use the Philly pick that Carolina own, but that's Carolina paying for it.

It's a typical failing of being zoomed in on one franchise for the majority of our years as fans, I'll admit as much.
Perhaps it's just a symptom of Habs, Oilers, and Leafs fans being louder than the masses? At least we all share the same consistency!

If van retains half they would need a package that involves a 1st and 2nd + because a .75ppg player at a 3.3m cap hit is very very good value for the receiving club

I would rather keep Sandin as I see him as being better than Chychrun in the next year or two</div></div>
That's a fair assessment and I respect your opinion. I think it is safe to say that this isn't a deal that works for either team

The problem isn't how good Marner is (he's good), the problem is what giving up all those assets would do to Detroit.
Detroit is in a rebuild. Rebuilding teams acquire assets, they don't give them up.

And again this is a FANTASY board filled with WHAT IF type posts. Its supposed to be fun and encourage dialogue.
NO one can deny what a great hockey player he is. I would say he is the best pure playmaker in the world right now. The only knock on him is he has a slightly high cap hit.</div></div>
Agreed. I think a lot of GMs in the league would do Marner for Tkachuk too. Tkachuk's cap hit is actually not much better considering hes expiring RFA (aka no UFA years bought). If he expected 7 mil on a bridge deal as a player that has never cracked a point a game, I think Flames fans are in for some disappointment next season when he's asking for 9+ and realize his cap dollar paid per point is higher than Marners
I think you might have gone a little over board by adding Magiapane, but I do agree there should be sweetener from Calgarys end

I think so. They’re no cup contender in my mind until they make it at least past round 1. But they’re not afraid to be physical when they need to be. Finding a balance between a physical game and their style of play should make them a team who can go deep.

True, I guess this is in a scenario where the leafs aren't confident Campbell can be a full time starter.

Next Season
Literally, every comment in this post is essentially pointless. Pesce/Nylander trades were a flashpoint during Nylanders RFA holdout, were all the rage for 2 years, and finally died out due to a lack of interest. Every now and then, someone posts an Pesce/Nylander trade and it ignites a 1 day flare up, only to flame out due to Canes and Leafs fans hot air about their side being more valued than the other.
Reality - Nylander for Pesce is a fair trade straight up, but one that really doesn’t make sense for either side anymore. Can we not just enjoy having Pesce on the Canes and Nylander on the Leafs?
