Buffalo has already been working on addressing that, they brought in Clifton, Greenway and Johnson (each would have lead the Sabres in hits last year), and some of the younger players have been developing a more physical side to their game.

So let’s say he does 3x6 and 8x10.5, that’s 102 million in 11 years, and he’ll be 32 when it’s done. If he does the 8x8.5, he’ll be 29 when it’s done, and he’ll have made 68 million. With the cap going up, and assuming that Power becomes elite (as we were with the 8x10.5 deal) shouldn’t a defenseman still in his prime be able to make 11.3 million for 3 years to make up for that difference? And wouldn’t it be easier to sign a lucrative long term 7/8 year deal at 29 instead of 32?

USA 2025 - Def the favourites
It really depends on if a goalie (r)emerges for Canada or not. Right now, that is what is giving USA a slight edge, but that could change within the next couple years.

One big trade for each team
Sabres have no interest in this trade. Ryan Johnson was only “on the block” because people speculated he wouldn’t sign with the Sabres. Adding a first, Rosen, and a RD that played 21 minutes a night for us last season doesn’t make much sense for a 1 year rental. And re-signing doesn’t seem like a wise decision with the cap hit and him being 3rd on the LHD depth chart with Samuelson also being quite capable and signed long term. Going after a RHD makes a lot more sense.

Way too much credit for some prospects that haven’t played in the NHL, or didn’t perform well when they have played. Also, why is Toews on the list when he isn’t even playing?

I wouldn’t offer 8 million and I doubt anyone in the league would. He’s 35 and coming off of hip surgery. He’s already a defensive liability, and his offense will only be declining from here on. Throw in that he’s missing half the season, and this is much too big a contract.

If Kevyn Adams or any GM was offering a deal this large, with the defensive talent in carolina I would have to think a deal would be done already.

And the Senators were worse off analytically when Sanderson was on the ice than when he was off. Power got plenty of tough matchups (he was top 5 in even strength TOI/G in the league), and still pulled a positive team relative corsi.

I could see Cozens playing wing, he played great in the world hockey championships on wing, but yeah this trade isn’t very realistic

As for Krebs, if hes still your 4C and your 1st-3rd line centers are all here long term, I;d deal him sooner while he has upside value, looking at 2 more seasons of being a 4C probably doesn;t leave any mystery to whether he has bigger upside.
just my opinion</div></div>
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Krebs playing 3rd line C for much of the season. Mitts played on Cozen’s wing for a chunk of last season, and when Thompson got hurt he thrived between Skinner and Thompson. I could see Granato trying to run a balanced top 6 of Skinner-Mitts-Tuch, Cozens-Thompson-Peterka, or keeping Skinner-Thompson-Tuch together and putting Mitts with Cozens and Peterka. Either way, there’s a high chance that mitts is somewhere in the top 6 which frees up the 3C spot for Krebs.

Center is the strongest position for the Sabres right now, Tage Cozens, Mitts, Krebs, and Jost make up an already very strong center group, with Kulich, Savoie, Ostlund and Wahlberg being quality prospects on the way. We have the cap space for Markstrom without retention, and between that and our current center group, spending a first for a guy that would be competing for 3C doesn’t make sense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rogue09</b></div><div>True. But if you look at it in terms of value and not if the player will resign, its a fair trade. Marner is better then Cozens, but Cozens salary makes the value even out imo.</div></div>
Seems like a silly statement here, cap hit and whether a player will resign affects the value of Marner, why would we trade a long term core piece for a guy that will want nearly double Cozen’s contract.
