Nice try though</div></div>
He was 4c all year this year. Got spot duties in the top 9. 20 points in 60 games is 4L stuff. Not saying he is a permanent 4th line centre, just saying he is that in Calgary. Behind lindholm and backlund for sure. At this point he needs a change of scenery or move to wing. Might resurrect his career. That and good health.

On a 27yr old from Vancouver? Just scored 50 points playing in just about every forward position this year. Swiss Army knife. Cap casualty in TOR. Would love to keep him.

They trade a 4th line centre for good 3rhd and backup goalie. 2nd sweetens it. Instead of paying one player 6.3 total they pay two guys 5.8. Makes more sense cap wise.

morgan rielly contract is a cood comparable for hanifin. Points in the 30 range and still much to prove. With the cap crunch you have to think calgary doesnt want to exceed 5 million. You're right though he may want 5 and shorter term.

dubas thinks d can come within??
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Leafs are sort the same situation as so many other teams, these know who there top 4 or 5 are.....Reilly, Gardiner, Dermot, Zaitsev, Hainsey. It's the next two that have to NHL good....Borgman, Carrick, Ozighanov or Holl, can two or those players up their game. You mentioned Holl, he's been a career minor league, not reason to think he is an NHLer but hey as a Leaf fan I hope so. Isn't it kind of silly to imply that Dubas is going to dictate playing time for Holl or any player.</div></div>
no because ultimately he dictates who is on the roster.

do not think borgman will be able to beat out dermott for a job. babs likes having left and right shot dman, also think holl will beat out carrick with dubas now in charge. People tend to forget we signed ozighanov! curious to see what he looks like at camp.

One William Nylander, please! MTL/TOR trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arousedcat</b></div><div>I used to think the same but I just have to wonder if that's really what the Leafs need... They already have 2 offensive defenseman in Rielly and Gardiner, Dumba would give them a 3rd. Dumba was decent defensively but he still has defensive issues (like almost all of the Leafs defenders). The one type of defenseman they truly lack is a shut-down guy (who Spurgeon happens to be, but he's no slouch offensively either). That makes me think Spurgeon is a better fit for the Leafs. I know Nylander has incredible value, but Nino AND Spurgeon would more than make up for his production, while adding much needed PK help (Nino is great defensively, he's one of our best forwards defensively but he also puts up big numbers in the points category). The Leafs also have Liljegren coming who is yet ANOTHER offensive defenseman. I just really think they're going to have problems getting scored on unless they get a defensively minded defenseman.
Edit: Wow I used the word "defense" so many times in that post, I apologize lol</div></div>
Understand your point but the leafs wont retain gardiner after next year, they might even trade him this summer. I love gardiner but the fact is he is a 50 point dman and he will be looking for a payday the leafs cannot afford because of matthews, marner, rielly, and hopefully tavares lol. what they lack is a top pairing right shot dman and that is what dumba brings to the table. i also think he fits in better with their core compared to spurgeon's age (28 or 29 i believe).
In a perfect world they can lock up nylander to a discounted price to continue playing with this core.
Although it may comeback to bite leafs nation, i would even consider doing a 1 for 1 nylander-dumba, just because the value right shot dman have in this current market.

any deal involving nylander going to the wild has to start with matt dumba. Spurgeon is excellent top 4 dman but I think t.o would require dumba to be in the mix.

leafs future under dubs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hedman77</b></div><div>I think Tavares would still want to get what he’s worth in addition to sponsors. Still can only sign him for 7</div></div>
If kopitar takes discount for 9.5, and stamkos takes discount for 8.5 (i know its different with state tax in tampa) then tavares could also take a discount. with todays cap players have to take a paycut to have good talent surrounding them. Look at what 21 million for toews and kane has done for chicago (dont forget 6.8 for seabrook). also if the leafs get creative they can sign him for 9 years. because they can give him a mega 1 yr 15.9 million deal then sign him to an 8 year deal in jan if it seems to be working out. If im tavares im intrigued to be a part of a core that already has marner, matthews , nylander, kadri, anderson, and rielly.

Trade Matthews
the leafs have know centre prospect that has the potential to be a first line centre besides nylander, lets face it marner isn't going to be a centre in the NHL if he's a winger in the ohl. Nazem is a good 2nd line centre, but besides that theres nothing in the top six down the middle. The leafs can't pass on the potential of having Mathews-Kadri-Nylander as a 1-2-3 punch for the next 10 years.

The second overall pick for Hamonic??? It's a good lineup but gave up way too much. Also i don't think Arizona would give up OEL to move up one spot, it's a reasonable offer considering matthews but OEL is a franchise dman.

Okay for one ur crazy if you think the leafs have bozak on their opening night roster......... and having casey bailey in a top six role when he's played a handful on nhl games???? common man, he would be lucky to crack the roster out of training camp. Not to say one day he can be their just not tight now. PHANUEF IN THE THIRD PAIR SERIOUSLY???? that and the fact you put james reimer on waivers totally makes this post the complete opposite of "getting it right".
