I still think it is more likely that a Chychrun deal doesn't get done at all, but if it is going to happen this is plausible.</div></div>
I agree it doesn't nor do I think it's a good idea for them and I think it's going to take more for them to pull the trigger on a deal.

I'd feel more confident in STL if they did just that. It's going to be more interesting in 2 years when Thomas, O'Reilly, Barbashev, Kyrou, Sundqvist, and maybe Tarasenko(if he manages to stay) ask for new deals.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>suburbanrobot</b></div><div>Dead on...the Blues realistically have 2 more seasons to compete for a cup. Then Thomas and Kyrou both hit RFA -- you figure at this point Thomas gets something like 5x6.0 and Kyrou could easily command 9.0+ at this pace. You end up having to lose Tarasenko, Barbashev, O'Reilly just to pay those guys, and there isn't a lot in the AHL to replace them.
Doug Armstrong is a goddamn wizard but I just don't see how this teams keeps up the compete after 2023-24.</div></div>
Yeah, it is definitely going to be tough. NTCs given to Saad and Schenn won't help either. Maybe if they can manage to get rid of 1 or both, they could be able to keep Kyrou, Thomas, and O'Reilly.

I think almost any Blues fan would be happy with this. Our organization should have an advantage as Bill Armstrong, now Arizona’s GM, has a lot of familiarity with our players.

St Louis Blues 2020 - keeping Pietrangelo

Blais will return more value and is kind of an odd man out with the current roster. He's an arb-eligible RFA so he'll get a lot more than $1MM, probably closer to $1.75-$2.25. Too rich for the Blues if extending Petro. Sure I'd be ecstatic to keep him for a mil but you aren't being realistic.
</div></div>
Blais hasn't earned more than Barby got. Maybe $1.25M tops at this point.

St Louis Blues 2020 - not resigning Pietrangelo version
I think if Petro leaves, we don't need to worry about signing a guy like Gudas. Use that money to get Dunn to sign longer term and figure out a way to add a bona fide top-4 D after the picture is clear beyond the expansion draft.
I'm not sure what Scandella will be looking for, but 4x3 seems a little risky. He's been a good fit so far but he's still depth D as far as I'm concerned - would be fine with 3m x 2 yrs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>suburbanrobot</b></div><div>Yeah it did set him back, but really it's more of a function of the Blues having a glut of forwards that would be considered middle 6. Sanford has the 2nd line spot on lockdown at this point whereas that spot belonged to Blais at the start of the season.
I think Blais (or to be specific his RFA rights) are a prime trade target for the offseason to be honest. He has more value to another club than he does to the Blues.</div></div>
Interesting, Johsson from Leafs for Blias???

St Louis Blues 2020 - keeping Pietrangelo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheEarthmaster</b></div><div>Pietrangelo's long term projections are very favorable. Doesn't rely on speed or physicality to keep up, rather on skills, which has allowed players like Thornton and Weber to stay relevant deep into their thirties. Plus in eight years who knows where we are as a contender. If we can get Pietrangelo on an eight year contract for a lower cap hit that gives us more flexibility when we know we can be competitive, we should 100% do that.</div></div>
I see the advantages and disadvantages to both sides. I just think I would rather give up a mil or two to lessen the term rather than have a 37-38 year old making 8.5 mil. Just my opinion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>suburbanrobot</b></div><div>a) I don't think Petro signs for 9.5 for 6, b) DA has been prioritizing low AAV over term. Look at the Schenn deal as an example. Extend guys beyond their prime years to keep low AAV to keep the band together and hunt for additional championships while the window is open.
100% agreed on moving Bozak if it is possible and necesasry. I don't think Dunn takes the money/term you are proposing.

Fair enough. I picked Montreal mostly because they have the Blues 2nd rounder from this year so the synergy was nice. The actual team matters less than the concept -- trading Allen for some draft capital and to free up space to sign Petro.</div></div>
Yeah I get what you are saying I just think Petro is a little different situation considering he is already 30. Getting him signed is a positive no matter what as he will still be a top RHD for at least 3 more years.
Also I do think if Dunn agrees to a 1 or 2 year deal you can get him at under 3 mil because of how low the term is. Basically allowing him to improve his point totals more to cash in big when that deal is up.
With Blais I guess I do not know exactly how all the RFA stuff works but just know he has not done anything to leverage getting more than Barbashev or Sanford did. Which is why i think 1-1.5 is doable.

Blais is extremely underrated. He's essential to the Blues 4th line.
I can see a team taking a chance on Allen in the off-season. Edmonton and Carolina would benefit from his skill set and affordable salary demands.

Ain't no way Steen is waiving his NTC for Detroit. Doubt if Jersey if interested in Allen. You might be able to give Bozak away but lots of teams need to cap dump. Not getting a good pick for him.

I just figured that Binnington isn't proven enough (in terms of time) to justify leaving him a lone. Elliot has been a solid starter when healthy, so he seemed like a cheap option. Maybe a better actual fringe goalie is more fitting?

Schenn plays left wing, but looking at Schenn he hasn't hit a great amount of stats except for the 1 fluke 70 point season so he shouldn't make much more than 5 Million, but with the cap increase we should be able to fit him in comfortably.

If you flip Schenn to Carolina, you have to get at least one roster player along with a 1st. He's a valuable commodity to whatever team has him, which makes him have more value than two picks. Gauthier and a 1st would do; however, that brings in one more RWer. We are already deep in prospects on RW, but Carolina doesn't have a LWer they'd move that I'd want. A team like Calgary would be perfect for him. If we could get Valimaki for him, you do it. If they balk at Valimaki, you move on and tell them a conference rival will have to pay.
