I do not think that Julian will be hanging up on any GM's no matter what they are calling to talk about....
Fact: Tampa Bay is 3.5 million over the cap now with only 17 players signed
Fact: No 1st, 2nd or 4th Round picks in 2021 draft
Fact: No draft capital only makes it harder to convince Ron Francis to take on a salary dump
Fact: Even if you get a team that is willing to take on Johnson that only saves you 5,000,000 and there are not that many teams that are going to waste $5,000,0000 of cap space for the next 3 years
I appreciate that you do not like my suggested trade with Tampa Bay. I wish you a great balance of your day and a much better tomrrow.

I really appreciate your comments and I have no issue with you taking the other side on any of my positions.
Let me give you the reasons why I think GM Adams will most certainly retain when he deal Jack.
1. Adams needs to be able to draw in more teams to drive up the price. The way he does this is to retain so that teams who had no shot of a 10 million contract but can do 7.5 or 8 Million. The more teams interested the higher the return;
2. Adams has cap space this year and next year with Miller falling off the roster so that is 2 years down of the 5 years.... Year 3 Okposo falls off.....
3. Adams is not going to be signing any expensive FA over the next 2 years. This time period is similar to Brandon Beane and what he had to do his 2nd year in & working with a roster that has a plethora of dead cap space.
4. I hope you are right that Eichel is worth more than that in a trade I would rather low ball than over shoot. I beg to differ as I would really like the players that Adams would be getting.
5. The Eichel deal probably does not get made until November/December as I think that Adams will wait until Jack is back on the ice and performing then he will look to maximizes his value

Samson would not want to stay 8 more years unless the organization elevates him to the Captain of the ship...... I think if they make a concerted effort to demonstrate how important he is and yes I think he is more important to the organization than Eichel he would stay. He is a gamer and loves the game of hockey. He would love the opportunity for him to be the top dog on a team.

Eichel Loves Country Music
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>BUF won't be retaining on Eichel. And they're not going to be adding in Olofsson. But I'd do Eichel and the 3rd for those 3 and the 1st. I think Tomasino is gonna be the best of the bunch.</div></div>
Dutchies I know that not agreeing with you can be a very lonely journey.... I think that Adams will be retaining on Eichel..... if he has done what I believe he has done which is to go to Terry & Kim and say listen if you want to correct the course of where this franchise is heading you will have to allow me to do a few things that you are going to have to just swallow and move on.... one of those things is retaining on Eichel.
If Terry & Kim give him a 5 year plan the $2,000,000 - $2,500,000 will not matter much to the Sabres. In 2021/2022 no issue, 2022/2023 Miller drop off so that absorbs the retention, 2023/2024 & beyond he can work around it.
If Adams retains on Eichel 20%-25% he increases the number of teams that become contenders and he also will maximize his value.
I actually think GM Adams plan is as follows:
1. Wait and trade Eichel until November/December while retaining 20%-25%. I think it has all been a smoke screen that the Sabres are so high on this years draft.
2. The Sabres will draft Berniers or Eklund #1
3. The Sabres will deal Risto and retain 50% of his salary
4. Adams & Granato will sit down with Samson and apologize for how the organization has treated him and tell him that their plan is to build around him. They want him to sign an 8 year deal for $8,000,000 a year and make him the Captain;
5. The best weapon GM Adams has right now is his ability to retain salary as he is certainly not going to spend in FA at this point;

LA GM desperate to make a big move
I think you are shooting too high if this deal was to happen before the 2021 draft. Eichel's perceived value is just not that high at the moment. I think Adams is better off waiting and looking to deal Capt. Jack in November December once he is back on the ice and playing. Then the hope is that he plays well and you have already taken on 20% of his salary for this year.
If you were to make a deal right now with the Kings I would suggest the following:
1. Take Bjork out of the deal he just adds noise to the process
2. Eichel goes with Adams retaining 25% of his salary
3. Adams also sends the Kings the Montreal 2021 3rd Round Pick
4. Adams agrees to take back Quick and that albatross of a salary
5. LA Kings send their 1st Round Pick in 2021
6. Vilardi is perfect
7. The Kings have to send another top prospect (It is not going to be Byfield) so I say it has to be Turcotte.

Just taker Okposo out of the deal. GM Adams has to be smart and not devalue Eichel any more than he currently is do to the neck issue. Instead throw a 3rd Round pick in to make Nashville say yes.
I actually believe that Adams will be willing to retain 20%-25% of Eichel's salary to improve his return.

I understand that my fellow Sabres fan Ntut135 is new to the site and he had a bit of a wet dream thinking about Brock. To say that Samson is only worthy of a 2022 1st is just being mean...... I get you that a one for one deal for Brock would not happen and Buffalo would have to add to it..... but in the same respect a 1st Round Draft choice in 2022 the Nucks would have to add in order to get Samson. Do not try and sell me that Samson has little to no value. He never misses a game and he has increased his offensive ability each and every year and is a leader on the ice and in the room.

Kadri Out Eichel In
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dad</b></div><div>If you bring Eichel in you'd most likely need to move Kadri out, I watched him struggle as 3C on Toronto and I think it'd really hurt the Avs if he was given that role. I think Compher would be a great fit in Buffalo, they drafted him and may even lose Reinhart along with Eichel.
I'm certain Eichel will be gone before October. The last time I can think of a similar situation was Seguin in 2013 with the Bruins. I like the deal you offered, it's really similar to what Seguin went for. Might need to add Compher and another pick if other teams are going all in for Eichel.</div></div>
You are know starting to think more strategically and a smart move by a GM would be to move in now and strike a deal for Eichel. GM Adams is willing to wait until the season starts and then look at October or November. I do not think that Adams is risking anything to wait as I think the attractiveness of Eichel will only increase the closer he is to returning and producing on the ice.
Therefore a cunning GM should not have to give Adams his Kings Ransom for Eichel but the GM that sees it as an opportunity now and offers say 3 Equivalent First Rounders and included in that is the top prospect in the organization a deal can be struck.
If Adams waits he allows Eichel to reestablish a higher value than current mark is willing to pay. The fact that the Sabres will have paid a portion of his current salary once the season has started also increases the expected return.
A cunning GM for this example Vegas:
1. Glass or Krebs
2. 2021 First Round Pick
3. Alex Tuch
or
1. Glass or Krebs
2. The first Round pick in 2021
3. The New Jersey 2nd Round Pick in 2021
4. Fleury
5. Paul Cotter
The Sabres send:
1. Eichel
2. Retain 25% of his salary
3. 2021 3rd Round Pick of Montreal
Since you are looking for the Av's:
1. Eichel
2. 25% salary retained
3. Montreal 3rd Rd pick in 2021
for
1. Colorado's 1st Round Pick 2021
2. New Jersey 2nd Round Pick 2021
3. Colorado's 1st Round Pick 2022
4. Kadri
5. Foudy
6. Barron
The point I am trying to make is GM's that wait end up allowing Eichel to take the risk out of the deal which they can currently leverage. GM Adams hand only gets stronger as the season wears on.

Really dude you just never want GM Kevin Adams to ever step foot in his hometown again do you. If GM Kevin Adams dealt Dahlin that is a guarantee that there is no way he could ever come back home for a family reunion.
Think about what you would be asking this rookie GM to do this off season. Deal Eichel, Reinhart, Risto & Dahlin.
This is NEVER and I mean NEVER EVER going to happen. it would not even enter GM Adams mindset to even consider it with where this franchise is.
You have better things to do with your time I suggest you do those other things over trading Dahlin!!!!

Kadri Out Eichel In
Well thanks for taking time to put this trade together and allowing us to comment on the trade.
I agree with Gmonwy that based on the overall assets coming back to the Sabres that GM Adams would say no but I do think you have a basis for a potential deal.
The first thing I would recommend is get rid of Ottawa in this Eichel scenario. If you need to make a deal with Ottawa then do it but do not use Eichel in order to make the deal.
Second Barron is a very good start but Compher can not be the 2nd major piece of the deal or if you want the 3rd major piece of the deal. His game is that of a solid 3rd line type of player. I do not see him being a top six contributor and at that level of salary not worth it to the Sabres.
Here is what I think GM Adams would be looking for in exchange for Eichel & the 2021 Colorado 6th Round Pick & 2022 Buffalo 7th Round Pick :
Barron
Foudy
Bowers
2021 Colorado 1st Round Pick
If you need to jettison some salary than put Compher in the deal.

Thank you for taking the time to publish this trade for us to comment on.
I like the way you are thinking in general but do have a burr under my saddle with the overall trade:
1. I do not think that GM Kevin Adams will trade Bjork. He will want to allow Bjork the opportunity to develop into a solid player since this was his return for Hall. I think he is more apt to add the Montreal 3rd Round Pick in the 2021 draft;
2. If you want the Sabres to take on the two cap dumps in Rask & Talbot.... Yes Wild Fan these two players for the Sabres are cap dumps as the player nor the organization will want to be around after the respective contracts end then I think another prospect or player will have to be involved in the deal;
3. I could see Adams agreeing to takeRossi, Rask & Talbot with the picks but to get Eichel & a 3rd Round Pick in 2021 it would take adding Greenway to the deal;

Well it is not only Wild Fans it is all FANS.... very tough for people to take the emotion out of their perspective.... like Beer Muscles or Beer Glasses late at night when you look across the bar at a Canadian Moose and think she is a '10'.
If Mr. Friedmann is correct and what he reported today is that the Sabres have been very judicious about who they allow see the medical records of Capt Jack and that GM Adams has now lowered his price to 3 first round level assets then I see Rossi, Greenway and Minnesota 1st Round Pick in 2021 a real solid offer.

GM Kevin Adams will not make Bjork available in the expansion draft. With Skinner waiving his no movement clause that means Rasmus Asplund will be protected as well.
The Kracken will have to decide between Okposo, Skinner, Girgensons, Miller, Borgen.
My prediction is that GM Kevin Adams and GM Ron Francis have agreed that it will be Miller plus the Colorado Avalanche 6ht round pick in the 2021 draft.

Let me see if I totally understand this proposal.... you are asking GM Kevin Adams to send to the Jets:
Rasmus Ristolainen who has played 542 games in the NHL scoring 46 goals and 199 assists for a .45 points a game average plus a 2nd Round Pick in the 2021 draft.... for this:
A 7th Round draft pick Right Defenseman who is 4 years has played 54 games scoring 2 goals and 8 assists for a .185 points per game player.
I am surprised you would not want GM Adams to retain 50% of Risto's salary or make it Buffalo's 2nd Round Pick.
Ask yourself if you were BM Kevin Adams would you accept this return for Risto & a 2nd Round Pick..... if you say yes you will not be GM of the Buffalo Sabres after you make the trade.

I do like the Tolvanen part of the deal as I think he is developing very nicely.
The 2 second round picks nah better off with a prospect.

Wow this is all a team has to give up to acquire Tarasenko..... in addition St. Louis will throw in a 2nd Round Pick in 2022 and Dunn!!!!! I grant you Tarasenko has had issues the last 2 years but he is pnly 29 years old & Dunn is just coming into his own.
GM Kevin Adams says hmmmmm maybe I should throw my hat in the ring.....
The Islanders send:
Leddy who has one year remaining before he is a UFA
Del Colle who is a complete washout as the #5 pick in the 2014 Draft (4 seasons in the NHL with 111 games played and a whopping .19 points per game)
Ross Johnston who is barely a 4th liner in the NHL
I think the Islanders will have to offer much better than this if they want to sniff Tarasenko & Dunn.

Minnesota will have to include one of Rossi & Boldy plus 3 other pieces each having a perceived value of a 1st round talent (Pick Prospect or Player) in order for GM Adams to trade Capt. Jack. IMO the chatter here in WNY is that GM Adams is going to wait to move Eichel.... to me this makes sense as I think his value will increase as he demonstrates that he is over the bulging disk. There is not a snowball's chance in hell that GM Kevin Adams would accept that for Capt Jack!!!!
GM Adams knows there is no way he can not land top prospects and picks in exchange for Eichel. In this deal he ends up taking on 2 million of salary.
Dumba would be in Buffalo for no more than 2 years then he will leave as a UFA
Zucs is a fine player but not worth 6.0 million over the next 3 years. He does not fit with what the Sabres overall plan (assuming there is a plan).
The 1st Round Pick is perfect.
GM Adams would be better off allowing Jack to play out his current contract in Buffalo.
If the Wild want Capt. Jack then Minnesota will have to offer something along this type of package:
Wild's 2021 1st Round Pick
Marco Rossi
Matthew Boldy
