With the Canes knowing what they would have in Mrazek, I think they don’t do that, especially with how high that pick is likely to be. As it stands, Raanta has returned to form, PK should have regained his confidence with Syracuse, and Halak probably just has to play average for the Canes to make the playoffs. If there is a problem with goaltending around the deadline, it should be addressed at that point.
My biggest gripe with all the goalie trades people are making for the Canes, is what if Freddie is able to return before the playoffs? It’s a little bit too early to just commit to a trade, especially when we don’t know how long Freddy will be on the shelf. At least with Halak, who if signed, would be at a league min contract, could be waived and potentially be claimed if need be. You don’t get that same benefit with Mrazek or any of the other goalies that might be on the market.
