Description

What are the costs for these RHD? It seems like 2nd pair RD is a hole for next year that CAR will look to address either through trade or free agency (options include B. Pesce, S. Walker, M. Roy, B. Montour, D. Demelo) or even internal promotion (ie. signing Chatfield to an extension and promoting him and Orlov together to 2nd pair, then signing a 3rd pair Dman instead.

Also who are likely trade chips if the Canes do look to make some moves this summer? Gotta have KK in that list considering he's going to be scratched come playoffs once Drury is healthy, maybe Necas will be shopped around too.

You have your 2 RHD already on your roster. I don’t think Morrow will be ready to be an every game contributor at the NHL level next year. The 3rd pairing is the issue here.

Drury's the much more likely trade chip. He's already asked for a trade and Kotkaniemi is just better. Ideally, Staal goes.

As for the RD situation, you're overthinking here. It just needs to be a stop gap. Even if Morrow struggles in that position, Orlov can play his offside and Nikishin has to factor in here at some point since he'll be able to sign his ELC at the end of the next KHL season.

Considering how well Orlov-Chatfield have played, in all likelihood that would be the 2nd pair right there. Morrow likely gets at least 30 games next season, if not more, but it’s likely the Canes go after someone who can be a 2 way, defensively responsible RD that they can pair with Smith, who likely gets the 3LD spot if Skjei isn’t resigned. Someone who can be thrown into the lineup and perform as needed.
