Description
Im not a Leafs follower, so dont freak about the lines please. I just think this would be a good fit for both teams, It would give Toronto a good defensive anchor. I also had a question, Hyman is listed as a centreman on the NHL site, is that true?

Is he? Who else do you trade though. Soshnikov won’t brig in Tanev, and I believe Marner is more untouchable than Hyman. Tanev is still 28 and a top 3 D-man for a Leas blueline that needs it, especially with Hainsey slowly decreasing. Thanks for the Hyman info on if he is a C, but who else would you think makes the deal work?

Trading for Tanev doesn’t make a lot of sense unless it involves similar aged players. Id do Leivo Rychel 2nd.

Same cap hit and Hyman is three years younger. Leafs have a lot of young wingers, but lack a strong 3rd D-man—especially if Hainsey decides to retire soon. If leafs want a run at the cup, it makes sense. Leivo and Rachel get you close to nothing in my mind.

He’s the only constant line mate Matthews has had and that’s for 1 reason, HE GETS THE PUCK TO MATTHEWS/NYLANDER! Drill it in ur head ALL Hyman haters, he’s better for Matthews than u think he is. He creates space for Auston/Willy. I’m not trying to be rude, it just seems like yelling and being stern is the only way for Hyman haters to understand...

Vancouver if they are sellers would probably like two high prospects. The Leafs who really are rebuilding, probably wouldn't want to make such a deal. Folks have been trying to force a Tanev deal onto the Leafs forever.
Truth is, trading Tanev to true contender makes more sense, and likely a better return for Vancouver. Tanev (if he can stay healthy) will probably maintain his trade value since he has over 2.5 years on his contract, so Canucks can wait for any deal, even if they wanted to trade hm.

Hyman is untouchable, yeah I said it. He doesn't play center he plays wing. He only plays LW cause the Leafs have a plethora of RW they can play with Matthews like Marner, Nylander, and Brown. JVR and Marleau is stapled to Bozak and Kadri respectively so that's it. I hope Babcock is still feeling his way through the team to see what he has because Leo playing the most amount of minutes is completely insane...

As for the trade itself, Leafs say no. If Leafs are looking into a defenceman I hope they are looking at someone better.

My lines if I were coach would be:
Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Kadri-Marner
JVR-Bozak-Brown
Leo-Gauthier-Martin

Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Dermott
Borgman-Zaitsev
Carrick rotating with Borgman
Gardiner-Carrick
Dermott-Zaitsev

Andersen

Leafs shouldn’t trade for an older player. Unless he’s a star. Tanev is just a guy. Sorry.

Yeah hes untouchable I believe. He's ridiculously hard working and is glued to Matthews. Mike Babock wont let anything happen to him. As per this trade, I'm honestly not a fan of Tanev. Hes meh to me. I'd perfer doing a block buster trade for a guy like Trouba, or Ekholm rather then Tanev. They need a top 1-2 dman, not a bottom pairing, and thats honestly what i see in tanev. Bottom pair.

Under Mike Babcock? He's untouchable. They wont be offering him up nor be taking calls on him. You are the most anti-leafs I've ever met Jerry. Go back to your hole

I agree they aren't shopping nor offering Hyman but they'd probably let him go in the right deal. It'd be tough to let him go especially with JVR possibly on the way out next year so would be leaving a big hole at LW.

Unless they're landing a top pairing D-man...I'd prefer to wait things out. See what kind of players you really have in Dermott, Valiev, Liljegren, Borgman, Nielsen and Rosen between now and training camp next season. Internal options may be the best solution to avoid wasting cap space on a guy who doesn't 'move the needle'.

At most maybe trade a 2nd or 3rd round pick with an AHL winger to land a 2nd pairing rental for the playoffs

It just sounded like that’s what ur saying, my apologies. But Hyman is pretty much untouchable, he plays with Matthews and Nylander giving them the time and space they need to create magic together by holding the puck until a 2nd or 3rd defender come in and then it’s in one of Matthews or Nylander’s hands to continue the magic
