I made this for the fact that when Babcock came to Arizona to talk with Matthews the talk wasn't good from Babcock's perspective.

Might have to offer 12 but you guys can easily outbid the maple leafs with that cap space

I think Strome or Keller would have to be in any deal involving Matthews

TO matches any RFA offer. There is no way this happens. If Matthews demands a trade, it would cost 2-3 firsts plus the teams top 2 young players under the age of 22. For Arizona to get his rights, it would cost OEK, Keller, Strome, 2 firsts and a second minimum.

But its mute, if Matthews wanted out, the Leafs could send him to the Island for Barzal and several other players.

Its a trade that doesn't make sense. On one hand Toronto would have to ask for the keys to heaven to make it make sense and then the other team would be hurt for years from what they'll lose in the trade. The reality of this era of the NHL is if you get a generational centre, you keep them because they can't be replaced.

    What about Domi, Strome, 2019 1st and 2020 1st.

Strome would have to be included to replace Matthews at C. Toronto fans love the Domi name.

I've always thought that Matthews would bolt to Phoenix ASAP before he was even drafted. I assumed he would just sign a 5 year contract to go UFA, but maybe he can work a trade to get there sooner.

It's funny that if he was one day younger he likely would have gone 3rd overall to the Coyotes instead of Strome (after McDavid and Eichel).

I think it would be more like OEL + Domi for him

Leafs would match 10.5m so there is no deal there. But at a higher offer like 13m, I think the Leafs don't match for sure.
Looking at the trade. The Leafs would get first rounders in .20, 21, 22,23, I'm guessing the Leaf go that route instead of taking 20, 21 first. cause Domi, Joseph and the second aren't with 22, 23 first.

Oliver mentioned in Matthews wanted out. Well he is still under Leafs NHL control till summer 2023. If a player was a traded every time he wanted out, there would 10 trades a year for every team. Maybe Babcock should go and Matthews would be happy (so would I)

Nobody cares about Dylan Strome. He doesn't move the needle at all.

I don't think it matters what Babcock thinks. He is a mediocre coach and Matthews is a star player. Babcock can thank Lidstrom for making him look better than he is.
