I don't like this move for the Islanders. Nelson has been a decent centre for the Islanders and especially with JT leaving, idk if moving him is the right idea. Even if they do, they could get more than Alzner. The thing is, we'll have to see how Alzner does in 2018-19. It could turn out great if he gets back to playing like he was before this year, but if he struggles again it wouldn't be a great move. Too many questions with this move, idk if the Isles should do it. I don't think so.

Gotto be as non bias as possible here......

That is an absolute steal for the Habs even with retention. Alzner is a glorified bottom pair dman who only plays defensive zone and PK minutes..... probably a good glue guy but these kinds of guys are readily available in free agency. Enstrom, Orpik, Emelin, Gorges, etc etc etc.

living in HABS country and having seen plenty of K. Alzner last year... my only question is WWWWHHHHYYYYYY!?!?!?!?!!? Huh? Help cry

he was literally pathetic and to be at fair value his contract would need to be half of what he's getting, he was absolutely horrible

Islanders already have enough questionable contracts, and there are much better D options than Alzner out there.

Isles PK was pretty terrible last season. I see why people are reacting the way they are. If it is a "steal" - what if 50% retention plus a 2nd round pick? I'm just spitballing

I watched Alzner all year. He didn't really struggle to be honest. He was as steady as he normally is. He was just signed with the misconception that he'd be better than he was in Washington without having a Carlson on his side and a better team all around him......

Its not that Alzner struggled with the Habs last year, its that he isn't that good to begin with.

I think the Habs are stuck with this contract tbh.

Adding Alzner won't make all those PK problems go away. They'll get slightly better sure but there overall game will suffer as a result of playing Alzner more than he should. Pick your poison.

Montreal wins big but they don't get a true center.

Nelson has value for a struggling middle-pairing defenseman, but Alzner wouldn't be the guy I'd go after. I'd rather do a straight swap for Ben Hutton.

Nelson > Alzner

But I think you’re on the right track. If Brock wants to move on, let’s see what kind of defenseman we can get. With Dahlin pushing every LHD in Buffalo down a peg next season, I wonder if that puts Beaulieu or Scandella on the block?

I am not sold on Nelson but I would give him a serious shot at centering lee and Bailey in JT’s spot on a one year contract. If Nelson does not put up significantly improved numbers from last season and the isles are not playoff bound then I would trade him as a rental at the trade deadline to a team looking for depth scoring.
