You get don’t sign Gardner, steal man trade either Johnson or Kapanen and you can get Karlsson

laugh laugh No salary cap and the Leafs only give Erik Karlsson $10 million per, If that's the case he wont be signing with Toronto. No salary cap means that Karlsson probably gets at least $14 million per.

No...Golden State actually wins titles and pretty well guaranteed another in 2018/19. This team would not be guaranteed to win; not even guaranteed to make the finals.

Meant it more as a jab at leafs fans who think every player would go their with the idea of a guaranteed cup.

With Tavares going north i think it changes the way free agents look at toronto

Leafs really didnt have generational talent though or a big name talent like Tavares signing with them, the biggest free agent signing since Nietermeyer (bad spelling) in Anaheim. Theyve also just set a franchise record in points.
Very different from late 90s Leafs. Apples and oranges

If there was no salary cap. teams like NYR, TOR, MTL, would basically buy all the superstars. and teams like ARI, FLA, OTT, etc wouldn't last. the league would drop to probably 20 teams within a few years.

The Leafs had tons of talent in the 90s and early 2000s. Niedermayer was a cap era signing anyways. I'm referring to the time when any player they signed was now going to get them cup. Yes the Leafs had more points this year than any Leafs team before but two factors also help contribute to that: changes to the how the schedule now runs and the magical invention of the 3 point game
