Seabrook was a healthy scratch for a handful of games last year on a defence that is far worse than Toronto's. Even at 4 million Seabrook is overpayed and offers only a cap anchor to TO. Carrick is more valuable at this contract than Seabrook.

Will you Leafs ACGMs stop trading Horton? Other teams don't want him and the Leafs are one of the few that have the cash flow for this type of situation.

Chicago is not going to retain almost 3 mill for another 6 years for a mid-level prospect and 7th round pick.

Well now that you mention Hainsey, I would much rather have Seabrook at 3 million for 1 season more than Hainsey. But what can you do.

First Nylander will be closer to 7 mill.
Seabrook will be an anchor both on the ice and with a 4 mill cap hit.
leaves you 27 mill to sign 12 players next season ( with out nylander being close to 7) and have to sign matthews 11Mill and marner 8 mill. leaving about 8 mill for the remaining 10 players good luck with that!

and at the end of the day The trade is awful anyways just cuz you think toronto is the center of the universe doesnt mean other teams will give you their players for free.

One star for thinking the Leafs can't spend 4m better than Seabrook. Another minus star for thinking that LTIR is that meaningful in a teams caps .

You are right, there is a certain segment of Toronto AGMs whose constructions usually involve trading/for Horton Nylander/Faulk Karlsson and now Parayko (God help us), but there are others more realistic. Two of them have posted in this thread.

It's cheaper than paying 7+ to sit on the bench. Seabrook is not even and NHL dman anymore
