Trading Edler and Baertschi to Tampa for Point

Created by: RC333
Team: 2018-19 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 5, 2018
Published: Nov. 5, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Team looks fine without Edler and Baertschi. Edler will get replaced by Hughes and Juolevi next year. Tampa may not be able to afford Point, canucks could use some more talent.

So the way I see it is...
Tampa gets Top 3 defender in edler, top 6 forward in Baertschi and 2019 first. Also Gaudette who has 2nd-3rd line center potential.

EDLER SIGNS WITH TAMPA 4×3.5 mil

Canucks get a top line center in point but have to take a bad contract back in regards to Callahan (he chooses to waive let's just say)

Canucks then sign point for 7 years 7 million dollars

People worrying about contracts don't have to because Boeser would get 6,666,667 and when pettersson needs a deal he'll get 9-10mil. Contracts that will be removed eventually are Sutter Beagle Roussell Eriksson and Schaller leaving tons of cap room for other players coming through like Demko Hughes Dahlen Juolevi

Boeser gets 6.66 and Petterson 9-10? Maybe wait until after his rookie season before making accusations like that. Just saying. wink
I think your current 1-2 of Horvat - Petterson is good enough for the long run, they've both looked fantastic so far. You'd do better trading for current 'needs'. Like better defence, or a goaltender.

If I'm TBL, I don't part with Point, and definitely not for that haul. Not worth it.

Also, still pissed off at you guys for taking Hughes...

Tampa says no. They've got more than enough room to work Point in. At 32 Edler is not the kind of d Tampa is looking for. Cernak, Foote, Mason looking to make the jump with Heddy, McDonut, Sergs and Strals more than a solid enough top 4.

Baertchi may be a top 6 forward but lacks the ability to drive his own line in the way point can. Plus Point is an amazing 2way forward who is going to be in the Selke conversation for years to come.

Callahan's contract runs out when Vasy is due for his raise so the cap hit could almost be seen as a place holder.

You want Point, conversation starts around about Boeser

More than enough may be a stretch.... It's going to be very tight in Tampa. Callahan has to go and probably one of Johnson, Palat, or Killorn. They're going to have problems if they don't dump more cap.

Callahan will stay until his contract is up. It's dirt. Nobody will take it. But like I said, he's just looking after Vasy's money. $9million a year for Vasy and Callahan is ok if you think about it. Not great, but ok.
Killorn probably gets moved. He's still got value to a team that needs a guy that can move up and down the lineup and play in any situation.

Next season is the problem with Point due a massive raise. They’re at $72Mish with 14 contracts. That’s 9 spots to fill with what will be somewhere around 10M in cap space. Someone is has to be traded. Not saying this is the trade but gotta think it’s Johnson, Killorn, Callahan or possibly Point just because he has the highest trade value.

I don't get why you are pissed off. It's like being upset at Buffalo for pick Dahlin. The Canucks had a worse record than the Hawks, so they got a higher pick. Benning also told the Hughes family that they were never going to pass up on Hughes if he was available at 7th. If watch the video where Benning was miced up, they would have even chosen Hughes over Zadina if both were somehow available at 7th.

Granted it's gonna be tight. But they have a bunch of entry level deals that can keep the costs down. I can't see point being the one moved because a)he's Tampa's most complete player right now and b) his value is high enough that to get a fair deal you're going to take salary back (a player that is earning bills). The deal above brings in 5 million against the cap bit makes the team worse. If Point is traded a higher quality player is coming back to improve the team now, or a slam dunk prospect and a gravy. Boeser, Hughes pieces that Vancouver are probably not looking to part with
