Just a bit of conversation between a couple of Leafs fan. It is my decision, I would rather just go with the current group of Dmen and see what happens. Maybe a trade closer to TDL from a non contender who is a seller. Looking at the Leafs objectively, man the three LHD are really good. Reilly of course, but even Gardiner seems to be "getting it", his play has been good. And hasn't Dermot been really good also, despite playing with an NHL rookie. Even the much maligned right side. Zaitsev and Hainsey have been good and now Ozhigakov is finding his way and is competent.

And that trade proposed, 7.5m in cap coming to the Leafs....and for what? As you said...no thank you.

Chief. I agree it’s not enough but both of those players make the lineup. Maata can play the right side if needed.

Pens pass. They aren’t trading a D-man without getting a decent one in return and Barberio is far from that. The defense is weak and it would just be weaker with these trades.

Cmon man. Rust isn't as good as Marner, or the current Kapanen. As ineffective Brown has offensively this year, Rust is no better.

Obviously he isn’t as good as Marner, that’s why I said 2nd best. He’s still better than Kapanen and Brown

It's not hard to be an upgrade over Hainsey but I don't think Maata is at all someone needed or wanted. He's best on the left side and he's not better than Dermott or Gardiner.

Think any GM would keep 22 year old Kapanen who has 8 goals 6 assists over 26 year old Rust who is expensive and has peaked and has 1 goal 4 assists. You really think Rust is a 2nd line winger? Even the cheaper 24 year old Brown who doesn't see PP time as outscored Rust.

You know I’m with you on that. Our defense has been solid and we have 4 good prospects that will be fighting for a spot next season. The nylander issue isn’t anything we need to be hasty with. If this is the type of value being offered I think the team would be best served to sit him if they can’t agree on terms.

So pens have Schultz injured and Maatta can play the right side but every pens fan here is trying to fire him out of a cannon into the sun?

On a 4m contract.... I stick with ozhiganov. We have plenty of young guys ready to move up and they are all looking better than Maatta.

Then you have rust... so what maybe he plays a couple of games in ennis’s spot till Matthews gets back... then the the press box... Maybe he tags along to the 4th line but I can’t see that happening. Every one of our fourth liners are playing better than rust. And they have been producing more from the fourth line.

I think the discussion starts with Guentzel and Shultz.

His career high is 38 points. He is equal to Brown. Rust would be hard pressed to make TO. Marner, Nylander and Kapanen are all better, younger and are still getting better. That really can't be debated without admitting you are complete bias.

You realize nobody on Pittsburgh is scoring this year? Put rust on Toronto and he’s putting him better numbers than Kapanen and brown. Rust puts up 15 goals a year and he mainly focuses on pk and forechecking.

Nylander and Marner obviously are much much better, but not Kapanen. Until Kapanen has a full season playing good, I can’t say he’s better. Rust has had 2 solid back to back seasons, Kapanen hasn’t... if you say rust and brown are equally good because of their career high in points, how can you say Kapanen is better when he hasn’t come close to scoring as much?

Brown scored 20 goals as a rookie and has been on the 4th line since. Not because he isn't better than a 4th liner but because the Team is stacked at RW. Rust's best year is comparable to Brown's best. They are comparable and Kapanen has a lot more speed and talent than Brown.

Lmao that’s the most bias thing I’ve heard on here. Yeah sure the trade is completely lopsided in favour of pit, but both maatta and rust would make Toronto’s lineup with ease haha what are U talking about

He's been better than rust since day 1 of this season. And even if we ignore what's happening this season, which no GM would ever do, Kapanen should he's capable with significant upside last year as well. Rust is 26, he's about as good as he's going to get.
