Description

Everyone keeps saying they'd rather give up Pietrangelo over Parayko (Which I understand.) So... Let's actually look at this. We want to pay around 6.5 for Nylander so Piet fits this, Bouwmeester contract falls off after the year or we just flip him somewhere.

Then we have Marleau's money fall off right when we need to sign Piet to a new deal which he can then get his 7-8 that he wants and still leave us with plenty of cash to pay everyone else... This seems mildly plausible assuming we use cheap stuff for our bottom 6 going forward...

Or not! I'm just looking at what every blues fan has been saying about Piet over Parayko.

Additional Details:

For the blues to afford Nylander because the first year cap schenannigans means it's sorta front loaded, they need cap-space so we take bouwmeester as a cap dump and they give us a second as payment for that.

I would do this if you replaced Maracin who has almost no value with a young piece like bracco or sandin

I think we'll have cap room once we dump half the team, so no need to pay to dump jbow. I'd still like a little extra coming back in a Petro/Nylander swap.

Thing is you have to have the deal signed by Saturday at 5pm which means STL would have to blow up the whole team this week. Just doesn't work sadly. I'm not sure what else you want in the trade, maybe a 3rd from the leafs? I don't see them giving up a prospect or a roster player.

Marincin is in there because they need to dump a roster player. You aren't getting any young pieces from the leafs, Nylander is the only real player the leafs will put in. They maybe add a 3rd/4th pick. That's probably about it.

Or instead of Marincin, give them someone who might have some value in Rosen and/or Leivo or Bracco.

I don't like this trade strictly for the ages of the main pieces involved. Id rather go after a young up and coming RHD who will be in his prime for the foreseeable future. Pietrangelo will need to be re-upped in a year and a half and at that time he will be 30 and expensive. Id target a younger RHD player either early twenties or a high end prospect++ like Boqvist or any other prospect of his caliber.

Be a better deal for the Leafs if Boumeester was left at of the trade. Rather have cap space for a real Dman.

Pietrangelo would be a great fit for the Leafs but il be very happy if Nylander signs a new contract by the deadline. Always enjoyed watching Nylander play anyways as he has such an incredible skill set. Who wouldn't want a guy that can put on the Patrick Kane mitts and stick handle through defenders? Gotta love how Willy skates using his great edges. Hope he signs for a reasonable price but If not, would love to see Pietrangelo in the blue & white but i highly doubt Blues even consider trading him.

I'd have to imagine that if the leafs were to entertain a Nylander-Pietrangelo based deal, including any of the guys noted above would not be a deal breaker by any means.

Bouwmeester and Marincin can both be left out of this deal...but I could see a Nylander + lesser Dman for Pietrangelo + lesser forward...with mid-draft picks on either side to balance things out.

It's not that I'm overvaluing him, I should probably correct my statement in that I just don't see them offering up a sandin or a liljegren. Nylander has age on his side and has proven he can put up 60+ points and it would stand to reason that he's the younger player(22) who might be just better over time then Piet who is turning 29. Maybe bracco gets added to this deal to but I don't see them adding a D prospect.. But the rest is about as even as possible in my mind.

Yes the 40 Assists are boosted stats from the plethora of scorers they have on the team. Not a credible or reliable stat.
