Running out of places to plug Backes

Created by: Js31
Team: 2018-19 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 13, 2019
Published: Jan. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
He’s been tried everywhere. It’s just not gonna work. Didn’t play for the last 12:00 of the game last night according to Fluto. He needs to be moved now or this offseason which will be tricky, but supposedly there was a good amount of interest over the summer. Who are the teams that would be interested?

No. Lucic has been worse than Backes, makes the same money, and is under contract for an extra 2 years. **** that noise. Slug it out with Backes at that point.

I did an ACGM awhile back. Backes-Heinen-JFK-Zboril-1st-rights to A.Kohklachev to Minny for Staal and Neidereitter. Gives an aging lineup with very few prospects an ifusion of young talent for an expiring contract and a guy they can replace. Backes goes home. B’s get a 3rd center and RW for the 2nd line.

I think B’s would be a Cup contender this year. Staal walks via FA at end of the year which sucks but the lineup will pretty much be set elsewhere. Enough cap space to sign the RFAs. Frederic/Studnicka/Fitzgerald/Cave would camp battle for 3rd and 4th center unless there is enough cap space left to bring in a vet.

After his bonus is paid out this off-season he's owed $5 million in real money over the last 2 years of his contract. He'll be moveable this off-season.

Unless he doesn’t want to be moved

"Who are the teams that would be interested?" You've asked the wrong the question. The question name the eight teams that are Backes "trade me to" list. So if I'm Backes, I say'll Tampa, Leafs, Pittsburg, Washington, Nashville and maybe Jets for sure....good teams with no cap with absolutely no interest in Backes. San Jose and Ducks have no cap space. That's eight. Maybe he'll say St Louis who may or maybe have any interest.

I’d assume he’d rather not play on the fourth line here, or watch from the press box, and it’s not like he’d have a problem moving his family after saying he wants to go back to St. Louis after his career is done anyways. He knows he doesn’t fit, I don’t think he would force a team that wants to move him to keep him.

Except he isn’t, still has an M-NTC. My guess is the teams he lists won’t be interested and the teams that are he won’t be interested in. He likely gets waived, clears, sent to Prov where he might be more incluned to accept a trade to any NHL team after awhile. If not they hold him for another year and buy him out.

Honestly the 3m signing bonus is not a stumbling block to move him now. Sure it does not help. But if the offer is one that could not be refused and helps the other team they would not be concerned about it.

Do you think there’s a chance he gets waived this season or would they wait until the offseason to go that route?

Except he is lol. Use a small budget, cap floor team as a middle man to eat 50% of the cap to help them get to the floor. Backes at a $3 million cap hit is attractive to teams and dont be shocked if STL would want him back.

If the "Game last night" was the game vs Toronto David Backes is credited with a hit 10:42 into the 3rd period. This would indeed mean he was on the ice for atleast part of the last 12 minutes so this guy has his facts wrong unless you are twisting his stats or Espn messed up their 3rd period event tracker.

Anyways you move him in the offseason after his bonus has been paid like @ON3M4N said. If he finishes the year at the rate he's scoring in December and January there could be multiple matches for him between his NTC selections and a team with interest. If he scored at that rate the first 57 games of the year (his total games played last year) He'd only be down 3 points from last year which was a pretty solid showing. Obviously you can't omit what he did the first 20 or so games this season, but he's been more productive lately and if he matches that offensive play with solid defense the price to move him might not be that bad at all.
