Buffalo has actually made major improvements this year in the right direction. Rememberast season when they finished last? Things could be a whole lot worse and they've at least made strides in their structure of play and overall game. You can't expect a team to go from dead last one year to a playoff spot the next year. Not every team got as lucky as Toronto did.
That being said, I agree that moves need to be made. But you're overreacting. Tinker with the roster a bit, add some secondary players to support the system. The core is okay with Eichel, Ristolainen, Middlestadt and Dahlin. 2 of those players are rookies btw, so give them time. The best advice I can give you from a Leafs fan is to be patient, don't just look at the obvious stats. And don't run your star players outta town and stupidly trade Eichel for nothing. That sets you back 5-10 years and you'll be closer to an Edmonton team than a playoff contender.
So chill.
Thank you for your voice of reason. The 10 game win streak totally misrepresented the talent on this team. At the beginning of the season I predicted about 90 pts (this is when the over under was 79.5). This was based on:
1) clearing the locker room of selfish players,
2) Mittelstadt continuing to display the talent that he demonstrate in the WJ's, his short period in the NHL last year as well as his domination in the Sabres 3 on 3 competition
3) and Berglund and Sobotka would score about 25 goals (what they have averaged over the last 3 years). We know how that turned out.
But Sheary is better than I thought, McCabe has rediscovered his game, Pilut is better than anyone could have expected and up until the last week the GK was very solid, so the Sabres can still reach that 90 pts by winning a little better than 50% of the remaining 34 games.
I just wish the Sabre fans on cap friendly would realize that rushing the rebuild is exactly what DATM tried to do and all it did was make the Sabres a last place team.
GO LEAFS GO, IMO if not the Sabres then let it be the Leafs.
