Leafs fans are terrible

No way Buffalo trades us Ristolainen for the 2020 first plus two months of Jake Gardiner, never mind equating little Nylander for my homeboy Trevor Moore. And this doesn't even address the cap problem for next year created by adding another huge salary on the blue line.

What an absolutely terrible trade for the Leafs. Gardiner >> Risto, and Nylander is pretty much worthless. Leafs would be foolish to make this trade.

I can understand why the Sabres don't it, but certainly no reason for the Leafs to make the trade either. Risto and Gardiner are about even this season, but then the Leaf would have get rid of another 5.4m in cap in the summer.

Ristolainen is beyond Toronto's means, even assuming you could trade Kapanen and Zaitsev for him. Eight forwards currently under contract for 2019-2020 plus Moore and Bracco is roughly $47M. Add $2M for a 13th and 14th forward -- that's $49M. Now add $7M for Andersen plus a backup goalie plus Kessel's retention -- that's $56M. Rielly and Muzzin and Dermott is another $10M. That's $66M without Marner, Johnsson and three defensemen. Even assuming that you would sign Marner for $9.5M and Johnsson for $2.5M -- both dubious (no pun intended) assumptions -- you'd have only $5M under an $83M cap to sign not one but three defensemen.
