Based on your suggested trades (and not taking into consideration if they are valued appropriately)...the best returns are probably Jets, Edmonton and Carolina

Some Sabres fans have been led to believe that Montour is going to solve all of Buffalos problems and they only need 2 good dman and that the Sabres should just trade him just to make a change. Montour has been hyped by Sabres fans for years (literally theyve been talking about getting Montour on our local sports radio almost since he was drafted because of his analytics and their lack of understanding how analytics is applied). So now that the Sabres have him their wet dream came true and they just want to move out Risto, despite having no one reliable behind him. Not realizing the Sabres now have a solid D core. If the Sabres are going to get a franchise changing package in return for Risto, of course you take it. But most these trades from these clowns are for spare parts and hurt the team significantly.

I understand the idea you're trying to get at here but in order to do this, you need to at least provide accurate options. The options here aren't all valued even........ Some of these trades look like a random trade generator chose them.

Its like if I did:

Crosby to MTL for Kotkaniemi, Mete, Poehling, Domi and three 1sts.
Crosby to NYR for Beleskey, Fogarty and a partially used condom.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMM WHICH ONE WILL I CHOOSE GUY?????????????????? OH SO MANY CHOICES....................................... rolling eyes

If you value guys like Calvert, Cousins, Connolly, etc in the same breath as guys like Ehlers and Schenn, then this comment is probably falling on deaf ears anyway.....

That's the problem with making this type of post. All I do is look at the returns compared to each other and if they're all over the place, I just stop thinking about it.

I haven't done any research on Risto in a while. I had no idea that he holds the NHL's WORST +/- rating. With that said... +/- is a terrible stat 99% of the time, but sometimes there's a sliver of truth to the outliers. Especially when you get a third of your points on the PP....and don't play the PK very much at all.

The coach and gm consistently ice players that have no interest in being here (Sobotka) or players who have big salaries but are less talented (Scandella played over Pilut and Beaulieu, look at Beaulieu now) or players that are just bad (Okposo's numbers benefit the other team when hes on the ice). Beaulieu and ROR have both flurished away from Buffalo, and Botterill got almost nothing for them. Same will happen with Risto

For the most part I do agree with you. BUF did do a pretty decent job at the beginning of the season playing the dark horse role. I watch a number of their games and Eichel is making me eat some of my words from last year. AND you're 100% correct that his ATOI being so high on a poor performing team will affect that. Doughty isn't too far off of Risto which is why 99% of the time +/- is junk. But I stand behind my 1% of truth. Even Doughty plays the top PK which affects +/- and being worst (or best!) in the league in any stat is certainly an outlier. Risto needs to work on his defensive game, but I wouldn't trade him if I were BUF.
