I think he's still the best player, I just don't think there's as huge a difference between him and other players as there has been in the past.


If someone said Kuch was the best, I wouldn't argue.

he has never been the best, yet. That mantle still belongs to Crosby. Probably not for that much longer but he is still for this season.

Best offensive player and transition player, but definitely not the best all-around, and absolutely brutal value for his contract.

I think the fact that mcdavid gets over 100 points with no one good around him or on his line vs players you say is better like kucherov plays with stamkos and Crosby plays with kessel and mcdavid plays with... chaission? Lucic? Like wtf?

CMD is creating far more offence and has a much better +/- too. At 21, he had 2 Art Ross trophies and 2 Ted Lindsey awards. Crosby had 1 of each. McDavid and Gretzky are the only players in NHL history to win multiple Art Ross trophies before age 21.

Look at who signed contracts in a similar time period to McDavid. MacKinnon, Scheifele, Monaghan, Gaudreau all signed extensions 1 or two years before McDavid at caphit% of roughly 8-10%. McDavid signed an extension at 16%. That ridiculous. He’s better than all of those players, but each of those guys can play on a dominant 1st line that costs about about 5mill less. (Scheif’s and MacK’s lines’ AAV will go up this offseason, but that has more to do with playing on a loaded top line.) Chia really started the trend of paying 1C’s 13+% of cap on their 1st extension. McDavid’s good, but he’s not worth breaking the market.

Dumb would be looking at the Oilers and not thinking something was up when their top 6 has one of the worst values in the NHL.

EDM is the best team in the NHL when McDavid is on the ice and the worst when he isn't. That should tell you something.
