Laine is everything everybody cries that Nylander is, this wouldn't go over well with the Marner4Pez fan club

I've heard of trading players for a bag of pucks, but Marner for Pez is a new one. squinty smile

You know what, this trade would never happen IRL, but the value is actually pretty damn good.

1 year of Trouba and a one way player who isn’t doing that well for marner kappy and zaitsev... no way.

Extend Trouba and remove kappy. Then it’s fair. But leafs still decline. We need marners playmaking, penalty killing and all around two way game.

you do realize Laine has been better than Marner every year of his career other than this one right? had that trade been suggested last offseason people would've laughed. Laine was closer to Matthews value then he was to Marners. I agree trouba has to be extended and more likely than not he won't sign long term in Canada but in a vacuum the value is very fair.

You got the Leafs depth pretty accurately though I see Liljegren and Holl as Marlies next year. Is Trouba really worth of 7.5m and the 11 highest paid dman in the league?

Better at scoring goals. That doesn’t make him a better player. I wouldn’t even base his lack of value on his goal scoring performance. He will get that touch back again. He has a great shot. His lack of two way hockey and any development in that area is frightening. I do agree before the season started it would have been tilted the other way. Hard to base players on only 3 years.

Marner went from a 7m player to a 10m player this season and Laine went the other way about the same. I think that shows the value difference there. The fact that we have enough shooters on our team is also a factor.

I do think taking out kappy, now that I look at it, might be tilted Toronto’s way. Maybe a prospect instead of kappy. But the fact remains that value or not Toronto is taking a much bigger risk. I think we all know Marner is staying in Toronto though.

Just take a look back over the last 15 years and see which players put up over 90 points in an elc year. I think marner has had a lot of help to get there but it’s still an impressive list.

I'd rather have marner over those two.
