I've wondered that myself. Rangers fans seem desperate to get rid of him, most are shipping him off to Edmonton for picks. I guess because his brother is under contract with the OIlers? Dunno.

Oilers had 6 goals combined at LW between Lucic, Reider and Gambardella. I think it's safe to say that there should be interest there to make a deal like this.

Gambardella played in the AHL most of the year, so yeah.

But why are NYR fans so desperate to trade Vesey? Is he an entitled jerk?

As a Sabre fan (NSH fans probably agree too), this sounds accurate

Not a jerk. Never reached the expectations we had for him, but still a good player. Based on where the Rangers are in their rebuild, and him being UFA, there is no real possibility of him being here after this Season. Just looking to trade him now for assets.

Unless Jimmy wants to go to Bakersfield, he's not gonna see his brother. Upcoming UFA Vesey seems like a trade a non playoff trade would not do.

I still might do it if the price is right, Edmonton with the right moves this summer could be a playoff team next year. Holland is going into the summer with the expectation of making the second season next year.

When you have a desperate need at a position, for a cost controlled asset on a team with Cap issues, it definitely doesn't hurt. Not like the Rangers are asking for a Panarin like return. Could possibly flip him later on.

I'm not sure I would trade 2 picks for Vesey, partly because I have other plans for the picks. Would you consider taking prospect Cooper Marody in exchange? The 22-year-old Michigan native scored 64 points in 58 AHL games this year, his first year of pro hockey. The Oilers traded a 2019 3rd round pick for him just a year ago (#68 overall) and he rewarded them with a sparkling rookie season as their #1C in AHL. His 1.1 points-per-game was the highest of any rookie in the league.

This is true. If the Oilers are out of the race at the deadline, Vesey should bring back a 3rd pick or so.

Not really desperate to get rid of him.. he's more just the odd man out at this point with Kakko/Hughes, Kravtsov, Andersson, expecting to have full time NHL roles next year, as well as Lemieux and potentially a panarin signing.. he'd be on our fourth line essentially, these trades obviously won't all happen.

If panarin signs we could realistically have
Panarin-Zibanejad-Kravtsov
Kredier-Chytil-Kakko
Lemieux-Strome-Buchnevich
Andersson-Howden-Fast

As you can see, there just isn't enough room for Namestnikov or Vesey.. although i would be open to keeping Vesey and having Andersson not play fourth line minutes.. depends on the state of Hartford as I wouldn't want him to be back on a horrible team

I do not like the buffalo one as we trade one defender who can't play defense for another.. while giving up andersson and fast for an under-performing winger in sheary.
Rangers would be better off going after someone else for RHD.

I personally like Risto over Shatty. As far as trading for another RHD, I feel that ventures back toward Trouba. And I have begun having reservations about him. Between both the package to get him, as well as the cost to sign him.

Pionk Howden and a 1st would be gone if we want trouba.. i still think that's a much better move than this even though we give up more.. We could probably recoup a 2nd or multiple picks if we retain half of shattenkirk so that'll lessen the blow.. trouba can play defense at least and would be a good pairing with Skjei. I would only want to give up those assets if we knew we could extend him. If WPG gives us permission to talk to him before agreeing to a trade that would be helpful as we would be able to see what his intentions would be if he came to the rangers. would he sign long term? if so, that would be a steal for us. Another player we could go after that I'd rather have then Risto is Pesce or Hamilton from Carolina. We have enough assets to make a push for one of them. Say an extended Kreider along with Pionk? could be a fair price

With Howden gone, Andersson could potentially be our 3C which i think would be really good for his development, even if he struggles a bit. He spent a lot of time with not so good linemates last year, and he's not the type of player to completely carry a line.. he's more of a complimentary piece for two offensive players as he has a good defensive game. He's still only 20 and has only had a season and a half on NA ice size, it'll take some adjustment period.. think tho, in his first two seasons post draft Scheifele only had 11 games of NHL experience. He had 34 points in 63 games in his 3rd year post draft, not exactly lighting a fire. He semi broke out his year 5 and turned it up year 6. Some prospects just take some time to develop. Honestly this could be a very good route for the rangers, if we can get him on a long term cheap deal and he breaks out it can be a steal of a contract.

Be careful with Trouba talk. Red Wing fans could be watching, lol.

I would take Pesce, too. Just saw this Sabres post yesterday and it caught my interest.

yeah even though my post says and emphasizes "if" we all know that the one guy that apparently knows if it lilts to the right or the left will comment saying that it's not happening..

i just don't think the buffalo trade is beneficial for the rangers since we are essentially giving up andersson for nothing. Risto and Shatty swap doesn't really do much for the rangers except get a younger version and fast is better than sheary.
