  1. Svechnikov, Evgeny
Additional Details:
Swap out Svech with right shot winger Geekie, who has similar potential, played with Ras in juniors, and can play center
2.
DET
  1. 2019 5th round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Daley, Trevor
Additional Details:
-50% salary retained
-Daley finishes career in Dallas, at 1.5 mil, good depth 5/6 guy and veteran experience in the playoffs
3.
TBL
  1. 2019 3rd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Tampa gets the DET 3rd round pick which is pretty much a late second rounder and the cap relief to sign point n others. Wings get Volkov a player that Yzerman scouted and drafted, good defensively and can score, would be a good addition to our young core. I think the 3rd rounder should get this deal done, maybe throw in another pick next year if neccesary

Canes keep Geekie, what’s the hook for Carolina on this? Would you be doing it if they didn’t have ASvech?

Tampa counter offer. How about Katchouk and Cally instead of Volkov.

Svech will just end up in GR, since he's still waiver exempt. I don't see them moving on from him yet.

I also don't think they'll buy out Callahan. They need another winger to play in the bottom 6, and he would be a good leader. No point in spreading out that cap hit.

Svechnikov is a complete question mark right now, Lets see how well he can play before we write him off. And why buyout Callahan? he can be an asset on the PK and third/forth line, and we have the cap space to keep him instead of buying another year. Also, he won’t waive his NTC if he’s just going to get bought out

I agree, wonder why the world thinks Callahan's one year contract deserves a high piece to accept?

No if you didn't have ASvech I doubt Detroit is talking about trade with Carolina.

I think just about every forward on Detroit is a center. They need wingers.

No probably not, but the thing is, Asvech is in fact on the canes, so were talking about it. Both Geekie and Svech are players with similar potential, even with svech's injury. He had an even better Rookie year than Geekie did in the AHL. Is this pretty fair value to you or no?

I traded one third round pick. For a prospect that is close to NHL ready. In this scenario they are trading a pick. Your not going to get Volkov or any other decent prospect back with a cap dump in Callahan with out giving something up.

The Wings wouldn't buy out Callahan as they have the cap room to eat the remaining year.

Svechnikov gained another year of waiver exemption so the Wings will use this year to evaluate him in the AHL.

Daley is worth more than that when you retain that kind of salary (look at Tampa's def core next year--they need veteran bodies and bodies for cheap).

That could go both ways, maybe he shows he's not gonna stick in the lineup and you get no return back for him. Buyout Callahan because we already have old vets that can play on the PK and i wanted to open up a spot for a younger player. That money isnt going to effect our plans this year or next year. And you dont know that at all. If he gets bought out he makes all that remaining money on that contract and is free to sign another contract and make more money

Im not buying him out because we cant eat the cap. I want that roster spot open for younger players. on Svech, yes I know that, but in this case i used him as an asset to acquire a right shot winger, which the wings desperately need more of.

Fair value, sure. I think my point is that it doesn’t help either side. I think both players are bubble-NHL roster players next year. The thing Geekie has going for him is he’s playing well in the same system the Canes play (Charlotte). Geekie has also been playing lights out in the Calder Cup playoffs. He can play center or wing and is right handed. This is why Canes don’t move him for ESvech.

On svech, yes i know he's waiver exempt, thats not why i made the trade. I wanted to acquire a young right shot winger with similar potential to Svech. We already have enough vets that can be a leaders in our bottom six, Abby, Frans, Helm, Glenny. i wanted the roster spot for a younger player. That bought out money isnt going to effect our roster plans this year or next year.

yeah thats makes sense, my point was to trade for a right shot winger because the wings need more and i thought they had similar potential and Svech had that connection with Canes

The Canes has one right shot forward on their NHL roster. They had more RHD than forwards. They have Necas, Gauthier, Geekie, and some other prospects who are right handed.

Same situation in Detroit, except we don’t have any prospects that right handed even

Why threaten to block someone? Just do it man. You might as well block me now. I don't know why you're upset enough to block people I hope it's not because they disagree with you. If everybody on this site agreed with each other it would be really really boring. I argue all the time with the Wings fans on this site all the time. Most of the time it's the people you argue with that teach you the most.

I like the concept of all of these... anyone could nitpick details, but the guts of the trades all make sense BOTH ways (something a lot of homers tend to ignore)... as others have said, the only thing I would modify, would be that there would be no reason to buy out Callahan and take additional hit next year, when they could just absorb the hit this season and ride out the contract...
