We're not taking a cap dump for our top-4 defense-man

So, tell us why does Marleau waive for Rangers...unless it's a retirement and his cap is traded.
Minni doesn't make that trade.
You better like McLeod because it's a big overpayment to tradeKadri and Brown for a non NHLer.. Severson for Zaitsev is about an even trade despite the rumour that all RHDs in the league are better than the Leafs Dmen.

why would rangers accept that trade? +35 contract = dead cap, so 6+m = not even a straight up 2nd rounder? albeit one that is roughly 55th overall? easy pass

Greenway for Kapanen is a straight up trade, Dumba for Nylander is a win for the Leafs. How is that a bad trade for the Leafs? If I'm Paul Fenton, I turn that trade down.

How on earth is zaitsev for severson an even swap. Zaitsev is almost untradable he is so bad. And severson just scored 39 points on terrible team.

Also wat threads have u seen where leaf players aren’t going for way more then their value? BecAuse I haven’t seen a single one.

All these trade favor the leafs and are just ridiculous

Now, I admit Zaitsev is very difficult traded mostly because of his 5 year term, not because of his play or even his 4.5m cap hit. In the post RTommy said Severson is a top 4 Man. OK. He's a top 4 Dman lets go with that. But looks at Zaitsev he's a top 4 Dman, extensive PK time, lots of even strength time, on a top 8 team in the league He doesn't play the PP because Marner is now the point man on the right, hence his drastic point reduction. So if your opinion is that Zaitsev "is so bad" so be it. Hard to believe that Leafs give him big minutes and the Leafs area good team with him playing in their top 4,
Most of Zaitsev trades are done to create cap space. And most of the trades suggested are poor because its gives a long term cap to team who may not want it, and it doesn't solve the Leafs problem of having minute eating RHD. The on ice reality is Severson is an even trade. Again we have this CapFriendly illusion that virtually all other RHDs in the league are top 4 men or better and Zaitsev and Leafs Dmen are so bad.

They are top 8 team but would still be top 8 team without zaitsev. You act like he is vilasic type player. He is not he is okay in his own zone nothing special and struggles breaking out. He doesn’t play power play because his not good on PP. he is paid 2 million more then he should be. You will need to give up something good to get rid of him.

Sorry, you're don't know Zaitsev. The fact that you mentioned that non factual statement about the PP proves it. Leafs have found a premier point man in Marner...that's why Zaitsev doesn't play the PP now. The Leafs just have someone better. By having Marner at right point, it allow Zaitsev to come back and plays the first shift back at regular strength
Strange that Washington and all their high priced Dmen and Holtby allowed just one less goal that the Leafs last season, but seemingly the Leafs Dmen are perceived by so many as not NHL good. I don't know if watch Zaitsev play or have you been caught up in CapFriendly frenzy about Zaitsev.

I am from buffalo so I get to watch a lot of leaf games. He is not a good player to have on PP. if he was so good he would play on second pp. but the leafs who do have one of the worst d cores in league have 3-4 players who are better then him on PP. that says all u need to know about him.

Capitals had good core but lost them because of cap. The leafs have bottom 10 in the league dcore. And only getting worse losing Gardiner.

Well I agree that without Gardiner and Hainsey the Leafs Dmen look worse than last year. I gave a valid point comparing Washington and Leafs defence which for some reason you think wasn't valid.
Washington has Carlsson, Nichischin, Orlov, Orpick and other, heck they spend more than the Leafs on defence . Don't like Zaitsev as player fine, your logic is just flawed for reasons that he isn't on the PP and for the hard minutes he played for for the Leafs. Now admit he is a tough trade because of his term, but you like others think just about all other Dmen in the NHL are better than the Leafs Dman. C'mon.

I think Reilly is good. And muzzin is okay but on wrong side of 30. Besides that they are in serious trouble.

So they dcore last year was as almost as good as capitals wat does that prove. They still have bottom 10 in league. And worst in Atlantic.
