"Nashville dumps $9,600,000 salary."

Yeah but they also trade a really good defenseman for a really bad one

Risto isnt as bad as his numbers look. He has been on historically bad teams. Put in the right situation I think he will thrive. That being said, I think the st.louis pick might get it done here

Subban and a "won't be that bad again, perennial 20+ goal scorer" Turris for Risto? Better throw in Reinhart.

I really like Subban but Ristolainen does not play for a playoff team. Let's Ristolainen and Subban last year Ristolainen first;
pts/60 1.3-1.3
hit/60 7.3-2.4
blk/60 3.8-3.2
OZS% 46-54
So last year, scoring was the same, Ristolainen hit more, blocked more shots and had more Defensive Zone starts. Plus NSH had 14 more wins and 14 more goals.
I am not trying to make a point that Ristolainen for Subban is close to fair, but adding something (maybe Sheary) and taking on an additional cap hit may be a good move for NSH.

Not really. Subban played heavy defensive minutes and Nashville's powerplay was super bad, and their general scoring not great either. Ristolainen basically gets outscored every time he enters the ice except the power play. Subban has a history of pp-production as well.

Possibly. They aren't that far apart in terms of talent though, and Middlestadt has shown at times to be a top line talent. But that's why I also included the first round pick

But that's not what Nashville is going for, is it?

Middlestadt as a second line Center or LW with Duchene at the other position would be good if they can dump Turris's deal.

If we (Nashville) get Duchene, I really wouldn't mind seeing Tolvanen get a shake at LW with Duchene and Granlund.

He was a 51 point center just last year and this year he broke his foot twice leading to his production and confidence falling. A bad c not quite. If he just was bad this year with no injuries than yea I would agree with you
