Ok I'm getting old and I've been out of the loop lately. Is this just trolling or is there some sort of rumor that is out about this?

Isles might have a very good 2020/21 with Marner. Doesn't seem enough expiring contracts or cap space to sign Barzel or Pulock next season. Don't think the Leafs take that trade.
Bode, Bellows, and Mayfield probably aren't worth 2 first rounders. Challenge the the Isles to make the offer sheet.

And if from Isles fans it's a "revenge" trade for the signing of Tavares. So the Leafs get Tavares and 4 first rounders for Marner. Leafs win that trade all day long.

There is something to it. There was an unconfirmed rumor that Marner is hoping for an offer sheet from NYI; additionally, he spent a week with several Islander players and his best friend is Matt Martin, so he wouldn't be uncomfortable. The Leafs won't give him the deal he wants. He could very well leave

Why did the same fans who crucified us for Tavares cheer as an injured Kevin Durant limped off the court?

This is why Marner will get what he wants. Not because NYI will actually sign him, but because Toronto will have to match and they both know it.

Oh so you didn't have a second round? Nice got it. At least your core is really good! Enjoy that core with zero support pieces!

Certainly the Leafs don't have a to match. Next year the Isles are in cap crunch, do you really think they want to overpay for Marner.? Isle want much better off spending their cap $$$ on Panarin or other playes and keeping their picks.

“We don’t need marner” name a team that traded /lost their most productive player and still was really the following year. (Nyi?) I would have said best player but the Matthews cult would have lost it. Even tho marner had more points. Ppg. And was a +22 and Matthews was a -9

Marner on the islanders and they will be in the playoffs for the next 4 years. You can have your late 1st round picks.

It's also not just a NYI thing. CBJ, possibly Carolina.
There are teams that can take a run at him, and if they are open to offers, they will. Marner on CBJ and you are picking 25+ every year for the next 4 years.
Good luck thinking the value is equivalent.

Everyone keeps using the word overpaid. Marner at 11.5 isn’t overlaid considering what the current market is for 90 points players. Look what skinner just got..... look what Panarin will get. “Overpaid” isn’t really overpaid. I’m ffs look what you guys paid Matthews and he’s yet prove he’s worth more than 10m. The superstar was a -9 on a stacked leafs team

But you left out the important factor in the Leafs not matching a Marner offer sheet. (It's the same with any team not matching) Leafs have set aside 10m for Marner. If they don't resign Marner they have 10m to spend (not necessarily this year) plus the four first rounders. So it foollsh to think the Leafs have to wait years for those picks to develop to get value back for Marner. It's the 10m

You're right about Panarin (will get paid) and Skinner and what they got paid. But they are UFAs which traditional get paid more. Think the Leaf wouldn't mind having the four picks from the Isles, and the 10m that they have set aside for Marner. With that 10m they can find ways to signing other players.

the 10 million means nothing compared to the player. Why do yo think teams are willing to spend it to get him. If the cash was worth more, those teams would keep the cash!
Not that I think marner is worth 11 million. I don't. But the truth is, you won't find a replacement for him. Even with the 10 million in cap space.
The equivalent is Panarin, he's not signing for 10 million.
You are stuck in a bad place. Sign a young talented player to the huge contract he wants, or someone else will.

I really like how everyone forgets how

A) Marner has to accept an RFA offer if he is EVEN given one
B) Marner is a hometown boy of Toronto, grew up watching/ loving the Leafs and has made it clear he has no desire to leave Toronto
C) The tactic of listening to other teams offers is just to scare the Leafs into thinking hes leaving, and getting NYI fans all salty

And if all this seems to fails

D) Toronto will most likely match anything under 11.5 Million IF Marner accepts.

He declined 8 years 88 million. Boss, he isn't taking less than Matthews.

You all forget that the payer has to sign the offersheet! Marner isn't going to sign an offersheet to play on the island. No one wants to go there... And if by some miracle he does, we will happily take the 4 #1's.

Islander fans are just rattled because the Leafs received Tavares for NOTHING and then he had the best season of his entire career in Toronto.

Buddy, the Idea is a contact like Matthews. 11 million for around 5 years. So when the cap is high, him and Matthews go for 15 million (probably)
