That’s a lot of risk for a near 40 year old player who wants to play this season. A lot of teams might see him as wasted cap. If he was willing to take a risk, he would just insist TOR buys him out in the first place.

Not sure I agree with you. I believe Vancouver needs to add to their core. Aside for dmen, Vancouver also needs a top six winger. Kapanen is more likely to provide this than Virtanen. Buying out Marleau adds a 2nd rounder next year that can be used to get another player if needed.

Marleau can barely keep up anymore and in this it says to buy him out but because of his contract his buyout does nothing to help with the cap, you're still paying his whole salary while he is a big cap hit

I look at the Virtanen + 5th = Kapanen.

I don't see VAN willing to give up a player like that. He's starting to come into his own. He's a big time hitter. He's making his nitch. There are a lot ACGM on here looking for him because most people recognize that about him and they want to add that kind of player. So I don't think VAN is parting with him. Especially when they got young stars they are trying to protect, especially after last season.
