statistically he looks bad, but he was a work horse D for the sabers over the past few years. in the right situation he'll be much better. he'll thrive beside muzzin or rielly. i mean if the leafs wont take him. im pretty sure there are teams willing to pay a good price for him.

Why do more Leaf fans not get this?

He has played a lot but he hasn't done well in those minutes. He just cant play defense or make a breakout pass. He is good offensively and on the pp but the leafs have a ton of guys who can play that role. The leafs wouldn't give up kadri for a guy who really needs to be sheltered to succeed.

no. its about the right situation. i think hanifin in calgary is a good example. he was incredibly inconsistent until he carved out his proper role.plus risto's contract is really good. the return wont be kadri. it'll be nylander. it is a divisional trade afterall and sabers have C depth as far as im concerned

Risto's contract isnt good though. Hes awful at defense, you cant be paying your bottom pair guy 5.4 million, he cant kill penalties, cant transition the puck up the ice and cant make a play in his own zone. Saying it's fair value for nylander is just delusional. Nylander is a 60+ point winger on a very good contract and hes elite transitionaly. Risto is pretty much a ~40 point right winger making around 5.5 million and one the worst transitional player in the league

Risto wouldn't be the 3rd best defenceman on the team. Muzzin and Rielly are way better and Dermott has passed him as well. If Miller makes Risto expendable then Risto is not a good player because Miller is not that good.

Or one could be realistic and say, Pasternak has a steal of a deal, Nylander has a good contract and Hayes is a trash deal. Markets change and if Nylander puts up a career year this year (still is only 23), then it's also a steal of a deal. Look at what Skinner is making for a career high 63 points.

Pasternaks contract is an outlier. His production jumped after he signed it, he was still a good player before it but no one knew he would be that good. Same with draisaitls. For a 23 year old with two 61 point seasons, it is a good contract.

What are you talking about. Risto has been your teams #1 defenseman and what has come of it? A couple lottery picks? Zaitsev is arguably better then ristolainen. It's not an instant L by having him on your team but you are over valuing him so much

Look at the stats. Zaitsev can play play his position a bit. Risto cant
