Habs are not the ones that are cap strapped. Why would anyone do a favor to TO and give fair market value for Nylander. Did Poile get fair market value for Subban?? Byron is a good replacement at half the price for another 4 yrs. "Division rival" bla bla bla. Maybe Bergevin should just offer sheet Marner. With that extra cap you guys can go ahead and resign Barrie next year, cause the way it looks right now, TO won't be able to afford his 8 mill cap hit.

Muzzin and Ceci are off the books, there's an extra $8.5M right there plus whatever the cap goes up, so say $10M in total next summer. That's more than enough for Barrie. & refer to my other post about Byron, cause lol, at least Nylander produces at a good level. Byron is nothing more than a 3rd line player. Nylander is a top 6 on every team in the league, and easily would be Montreal's beat forward. It's a terrible deal. Nylander isn't available for a reason. Marner doesn't guarantee you a playoff spot. Especially if you're Montreal who need a centre more than a winger (hence why they went after Aho). & injuries happen at the most unexpected times. You could sign Marner, he could get a serious season ending injury at any point.. then Montreal is right back to almost guaranteed out of the playoffs and that turns into a lottery pick.. Chicago just jumped from #12 to #3 overall in the draft, Philly jumped up to #2 a couple years ago.. so at that point you'd be giving up a really good, younger, cheaper player.. & Toronto has the chance for that to happen 3 more times. That's why no one has or will offer sheet Marner over $10.5M.. which gives Toronto all the leverage and they can sign him for less.
