don't think any team is taking a 3rd pairing guy for 4.5 million. leafs are giving up assets too on a trade.

You are not signing Deangelo that cheap. Maybe same term and money as kappy. Kappy seems very committed to the leafs though. Would hate to see him go but it is certainly a good hockey trade.

I don’t care how badly gardiner wants to stay, he isn’t taking 4 years at that. Maybe 1

That's right! If Neil effin' Poink can peel $3 million a year, DeAngelo is getting $4 million. Which makes that Kappy deal look, well, bad.

All about comparables man.

I’m just going to jump ahead of everyone here and say that if Toronto ever traded for Daniel Sprong the fan base would hate him almost instantly. Oh and you’ll definitely need to add to that Anaheim deal...prob a marlies guy and a draft pick.

I don't think Anaheim should take Ceci at that cap hit and give you Sprong. Also, I don't think DeAngelo is worth Kapanen. Leafs shouldn't move him for DeAngelo IMO.

If you're signing Gardiner, and I may never agree with @Bcarlo25 again but he's right, there is no need to make the Kapanen trade.

Someone will take a flyer on Ceci on a one year deal. No assets needed to add. The return might be **** all but depending on when throughout the year and who is injured, someone will throw out a 4th rounder.

I agree with this too. I think a non playoff team that thinks they can put Ceci in a good spot to succeed, and then flip him at the deadline would pretty happily take him on

To be honest... I think he would. It sucks that he just doesn’t fit on our team. He is certainly committed. Damn near august and he’s still waiting to see if the leafs can afford him. I would actually shoot him the 8 year 4m and let him collect paychecks from robidas island.

I think the Leafs can still fit Gardiner in with a Marner deal if they trade Ceci. Offer him a 2 year $4M/Yr. deal and run the pairings as follows:
Reilly-Schmaltz
Muzzin-Barrie
Gardiner-Dermott

“If we Trade ceci” then gardiner can be signed for 4.5m. But ceci is right handed and that’s what Babs wants. The fact that gardiner can not play on the right at all is why he has to go. It sucks, he is one of those players that would take a discount to stay in Toronto... even though fans **** all over him.

He wasn’t waiting around for the leafs. Every year there’s an odd ufa out where everyone that wants him just runs out of space. I could see him going back to the leafs cheap, but just for one year. A 4 year deal at 4 million is just not a possibility
