I don't think that cuts it for MTL.

Dickinson basically doesn't even get into the Habs lineup as things stand, and a 2nd doesn't bridge the gap between the 2 players.

I think another team would easily beat that offer.

more like Harley or Robertson ,2nd in 2022 and a 5th in 2020

the 2022 2nd is conditional 1st if Tatar re-signs with DAL
Robertson has Chemistry with Caufield and Harley fits our needs longterm as Mete's replacement down the road in 3-5 years . (Harley's a guy who's 17 with a good 3 OHL seasons he can play and a year or two in the AHL and he'll enter the NHL a top 4 LD by age 22 )

MTL can wait for the pick to get better value in the prospect for help today on the gamble Tatar re-signs and they get a 1st in addition .
whether its Robertson or Harley it will take time to develop which is good for MTL who's had multiple players jump ahead of development expectations
challenging for a roster spot at the expense of veterans like plekanec and shaw . taking on either prospect allows them time to integrate 1-2 each year instead of a cluster at once

A guy that puts up 22 pts vs a guy that puts up close to 60. Habs pass. Switch Dickinson for Robertson and change the 2nd to a 4th.

There a lots a think to considerate. First if the habs are in the hunt like last year, second how many team will be seller at the deadline and third how our prospect progressed. If montreal enter the seller team that will be interesting to see what on the market. Tatar might be one of the premium player so the price would go higher. If dallas is interested in tatar then i think the price will be a first round pick and albin erickson that could interest montreal

Never suggest a mediocre deal to Habs fan. After that, they only get satisfied by absolutely fleecing the other participant of the trade lol.

To be fair, I don't see neither MTL or DAL taking it. MTL because it isn't worth it, DAL because they have $1M left in cap space (minus Hanzal provided he's put to LTIR), meaning that they can't really afford take Tatar...

If Tatar is dealt, it will be for a prospect and a pick. Tatar will be dealt in two scenarios :

1- Mtl are out of playoff at TDL;
and/or
2- Prospect like Suzuki, Poehling are on the roster

If so, in both scenarios, place is for the young.

1st pick or Robertson will probably the base of this trade

I think McFaksaGOAT mentioned "at the deadline" so that would likely mitigate that cap issue you refer to. On my side, I think the issue is that Montreal is probably on the bubble; waiting to see if it gels to know if they are seller or not. While they may be willing to receive long term assets (their prospect pool being quite good currently) they probably do see a lot a value in a not-too-old, prolific and defensively-sound top 6 winger like Tatar. The price would likely not be below a mid 1st rounder, not so much because they need to fleece other teams or that it reflects Tatar's market value but because it reflect it's current value to the Canadiens.

I can't see the Habs making this deal. Tatar is totally available for the right price but adding a 24 year old center now is kind of pointless for the Habs. Habs have bolstered their center depth to the point of not needing anymore. Make it a young D prospect and maybe they'll start talking. (And no not Honka)

I think a lottery protected 1st rounder is not out of the question for Tatar if traded by this TDL in which he still has another year left on his contract at a very respectable cap hit. I would take the 1st over Dickinson and a 2021 2nd any day.

Habs don't take this deal. That being said, Dallas also isn't going to part with Robertson or Harley in order to land him. Dickinson isn't a bad start (regardless of what Habs fans think). He really came on in the playoffs, and showed he can be a legitimate middle-6 forward. Ideally, he's a Center, but he can play wing.

That being said, in order to land Tatar, Dallas is going to have to give up a 1st Round Pick, in addition to Dickinson OR they are going to have to give up Dickinson, add a 2nd Round Pick, a 2nd Round Pick in 2022, and either Tye Felhaber or Adam Mascherin.
