Hopefully LaFreniere will be the one to put you over the top, since it hasn’t happened yet with so many top picks in recent years...
Ristolainen #8 OA - 2013
Reinhardt #2 OA - 2014
Eichel #2 OA - 2015
Middelstadt #8 OA - 2017
Dahlen #1 OA - 2018

This is similar to the stretch the Bluejackets had from 2000-2009, but Sabre’s talent above is much better than what the Jackets Did with their top picks during the 2000’s.

Lafreniere way more talented than all those guys. Dahlin and Eichel are somewhat close (Dahlin might be equal who knows at this point, but i personally doubt it) but everyone else is not.

I think Lafreniere is the next Hall more than the LW version of Crosby

Im not pulling for a lottery win right now. We got our franchise center and franchise d, now the front office has to fill out the rest of the roster. Whether that means waiting for talent to develop or moving assets for something more costly but finished- thats the trick right now.

Lafreniere while a stud is not a better prospect then Eichel or Dahlin there respective draft years.

Hell he would have been 3rd this past draft behind Hughes and Kakko.

2020 is loaded with elite level talent and while Lafreniere might be the best out of the bunch he's not considered "franchise" altering like Mcdavid or Mathews.

I agree, I see him more as a Hall. Elite but not franchise altering.

I still think he could get be the best player on a winning team but hes not gonna be a 100+ pts yearly player. Hes definitely gonna be a pt per game player and could end up like with Marchand like production

Right I was more saying that the guys the sabres took other than Jack and Rasmus aren't close. I don't care to argue who's the best of those 3. 105 points in 61 games and its not even your draft year yet, is hard to ignore.

QMJHL is hard not to ignore. Guys like Zadina and Abramov lit it up for a couple of years and havent made the NHL roster yet in year 2 and 3 respectively. But its not like their busts just havent made it yet

McKenzie says that if Lafreniere had been born a month earlier (i.e. eligible for the 2019 NHL draft) scouts think he would have pushed Hughes for the 1OA spot. He's only going to get better this year, too.

He isn't in the McDavid / Crosby echelon, but he's very, very good and will certainly be a difference maker immediately.

Ehhhh I think Eichel can easily be a 100 point guy. He doesnt have the greatest cast around him

I do, his stats at his age speak for themselves, but the point was more that Buffalo didn't have the chance to select a guy with his caliber for all the other picks listed (Except Draisatl v Reinhart...ugh). Dahlin is close but I think at his age he's passed eichel.
