More than I would like to give, but if Manson is out long term we might have to.

What is the consensus on Ceci's value right now?

I would say either 6th and something or 4th rounder imo is the consensus. Depends on needs of the team. I would love to get Miller for him tho as Leafs need backup.

Quite low. It's possible he's just having some issues adjusting to the new system but he seems out of place often and it's been glaringly bad some nights. He's also been getting significantly less ice time than the rest of Toronto's top 4, which is concerning. With Dermott nearing a return, it's possible he slides down to the 3rd pairing. Toronto would probably take a 6th or 7th rounder in exchange just to free up some cap space for roster flexibility.

So i'm not completely off base if Manson is out a month + and we need to get a RD. I can't see us moving miller though he took a cheap deal I think this is his last year and he wants to be on the west coast.

Manson could be out long term and we have almost not RD, we've looked good to start the year and any team can contend giving up 10 games in makes 0 sense.

Our RD depth without manson is Holzer, Hakanpaa, Wideman. A move needs to be made

Too be fair, he looked lost most nights in Ottawa if not all the time at least once or twice a period. A lot of people blamed the system he was under at the time but we've all come to realise Ceci is not good.

I highly doubt we will move Guddy, but maybe Ruhwedel then.... The dude is a very good & under rated RHD-man but cant get into line up here bc of the emergence of Marino

To be faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiir

I'm well aware of his abysmal stats in Ottawa but was hopeful that was mostly due to situation and not player performance. Early returns with Toronto have not been encouraging thus far. It'd be nice if he can figure it out but it wouldn't surprise me if he got Alzner'd

When the top 10 of the draft is this stacked and your team isnt a playoff team (middler team at best) yeah you kind of give up when in the first 10 games you lose a top4...

the top 10 isn't affected by giving up a mid round pick, we still have a first, We need a RD and going after a guy like Ceci for a 3rd or lower wouldnt be a bad move.

right but wouldnt you want to be the worst team possible to get one of those top 10 guys? unless thats why your targeting ceci? are you telling me over an 82 game season you think the ducks with a couple moves are better than 8 other teams in the west?

Why would we have to? We're not a playoff team, throwing assets at a Band-Aid that won't address the main problem of this team seems like mismanagement to me. Now signing a low-level guy to fill the gap, fine. That's what the Sbisa signing was about. But I don't think we should be moving multiple pieces for a stop-gap when our sights are on a lottery pick anyway.

Not moving multiple pieces for a stop gap, a mid round pick (leafs fans have said above a 4-5th gets it done) why wouldn't we make that move to avoid putting someone that isnt ready in a top 4 role. I know Ceci isn't great but I'd rather do that than rush Larsson or someone else into a role they arent ready for.

If you think we don't need to make a move that's just ignorant imo our RD depth needs to improve before the Manson injury and now we definitely need to do something.

I would 100% rather sign McQuaid or a similar player or even call Hakanpaa or wideman up, but one has to think if it were going to happen it would have by now.

Giving a mid rounder for Ceci isn't mismanagement, it helps protect our younger players that we shouldn't rush into Larger roles because our Roster is poorly constructed, even if we are focused on a lottery pick, making a move for a RD is necessary imo even if it is just to protect our younger LD to avoid playing them on their off-side

We're beyond protecting these young d-men at this point. They need to cement their spots now and so far they have. Mahura, Hakanpaa or Benoit is undoubtedly on their way to Denver right now, regardless of whether we've heard about it yet. That's probably not a great long-term solution if Mans is out for an extended period of time, but you said it, we should sign someone like McQuaid. For the very least I simply don't want Ceci. I'd rather give Mahura a serious look. Everyone is making way, way, way too big a deal about our lack of RHD. We need quality NHL d-men, regardless of how their stick is curved. Considering how anemic our offense continues to be, I'm comfortable riding with what we have and maximizing our draft picks, ALL of our draft picks.

This is literally the point i was trying to make. this is how you get a look at prospects and their development. if they arent ready you dont play them in that spot. if they look good then you just hit on a prospect.

Most of the preceding discussion is on the philosophical issue of whether it makes sense to expend a fourth-round pick (we seem to have settled on that as opposed to the original premise) on Ceci rather than the primary question @Salzy poses (and I posed in an earlier post): should we make a move for Severson, and if so, what should the price be? I had actually drafted my team construction prior to the game last night and was planning to post it if Anaheim lost, as I could foresee a 0-4 road trip if the Ducks couldn't beat Dallas. Now that Manson (and Kase, don't forget) got injured, the issue is more pressing. My formulation was Mahura and Sherwood plus a higher draft pick; you could consider that the low end of the offer range. The one shown here is kinda upper-range; in our current circumstances, I would go Larsson, Sherwood and our 2020 second. I know some colleagues will say I'm panicking, but as Rudyard Kipling once said, If you can keep your head about you when all those around you are losing theirs, then maybe you don't understand the real situation. And please note that Severson is signed through 2023.

You got gudbranson for a crap prospect and a 7th... this is more or less the trade that should have been made if you wanted a dman.
