Price for DeSmith

Created by: This_Guy33
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 26, 2019
Published: Nov. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would this be a good Carey Price for DeSmith? I know the pens wouldn't want to retain for 3 years, but DeSmith already has a buried 175k cap hit.

DeSmith was extremely good last year (19th among all goalies in GSAA and among the top 20 only 5 goalies had less TOI than him) and is signed to a very team-friendly deal and there's retention on top of that. It'll take more than an expiring contract and an ECHL goalie

Expiring contract? It’s mikeyev... rookie season ...... rfa...tearing it up... ringing any bells? And before you start with the oh he’s playing with elite centres... he has been with spezza and kerfoot.

Desmith is playing in the ahl and costing you 175k... again... the leafs would never offer this.

I would if Washington were in a spot to retain... they are not. Possibly if there were a third team involved to retain.

To be fair I don't think the value is too off. Mikheyev looks like a decent bottom 6 guy but we already have too many of those guys. Think GMJR values having that extra back up goalie then adding another depth piece. Pens decline.

Mikheyev is certainly going to be a top 6 player in the nhl. Has all the skills grit and vision. Also plays a decent two way game.

You can't be serious. Mikheyev is a tenacious two-way forward who has some respectable puck skills and can score. He's on pace for 46 points this season. If he was playing with Malkin, he'd be a 60-70 point guy. There are better backup goalies in the league making less than that whom the Leafs wouldn't give up Mikheyev for.

Apparently me not wanting to give up a quality goalie for a player that would provide no benefit to the Penguins and a scrub = asking for that.

God you're sensitive

Mikheyev would provide no benefit for the Penguins. They already have too many forwards as it is right now

Mikheyev is 25, he's not going to get any better than the level he's at now

He just adjusted his game from the khl and to North American living. He will do slightly better to the end of the year as he is now starting to get moved into the top 6 for injuries. Most likely plateau next season. In a top 6 role he’s a 60 point guy easily. With centres like Malkin and Crosby he would get much more.

I’m not sure you’ve seen much of him but he is actually really good. He can dangle shot and play hard and physical both ways.

It’s a very lob sided trade and most of the pens fans on here agree.

I'm not doubting that he's good, but with the current logjam at forward and an impending cap crunch, it does not make any sense to trade for Mikheyev, and again at 25, he is very unlikely to get any better than maybe a 20-20 guy.

Just because Penguins fans say something doesn't mean it's true, especially not on this site

Lol... he’s already that carrying his line. Imagine if you give him someone to play with.

Even if he is only ever a 20 goal scorer he’s worth more than an ahl goalie. I’m sure your gm knows how to move people out to make room for talent.
