One of Kreider or Pageau is unnecessary in this setup: if the goal is to separate Edmonton's big centers and run three scoring lines, running a $4.5M Pageau on the 4th line is an egregious waste of cap space that could be better suited to employing something more than the corpse of Ron Hainsey as the #2LD. IF the option is to keep McDavid and Draisaitl together, Kreider is almost not needed given the wingers coming back in the Torono deal AND trying to fit Benson onto this roster. I'd be much more interested in using that money in targeting Muzzin if we aren't trading a combination of Yamamoto and PIcks to acquire a quality RFA defender that's ready for bigger minutes.
I agree there is redundancy in this mock - that's the whole point of "throwing s*** at the wall" isn't it? In any case, having Pageau anchor a shutdown line isn't a waste - because that's what he does best - but he's also insurance against Nuge potentially leaving as a UFA. I like the Muzzin suggestion as well, that's another option in the highly unlikely event Nurse is traded. Depending on what he's asking, of course, but it shouldn't be more than I gave Kreider, so you're dead on there.

While I do think the landing spot for Russell is likely to be Detroit - they need to hit the cap floor somehow and could use a year of a serviceable defender - I doubt the return is going to be anything close to what you have or fair whatsoever. Kris is at the point in his career where he is a bottom-pairing defender, and his cap hit doesn't justify what he brings to the ice. Strictly based on the optics of it all, Edmonton might coup a 2021 5th Round Pick for him. Given that it's a move to clear a cap hit and nothing personal against the guy, by June, I might be willing to sell low on him just to free up that much-needed cap space.
Okay, some of your statements don't add up, specifically "they need to hit the cap floor", "a serviceable defender", "cap hit doesn't justify what he brings to the ice". If Detroit is under the cap floor then a high cap hit is good, if they're above the floor but nowhere near the cap limit then his cap hit is
utterly irrelevant. They won't care what his cap hit is, they'll be looking at the actual dollars that they have to spend on him, which is quite low. And seeing as Glendening is one of the worst players in the league this year and
well below replacement level, I was doing them a favour by taking on his contract. Glendening + a late 3rd (my suggestion) is about equal to an early 5th (your suggestion) in my mind, so I don't think we're far apart here despite looking at it from different angles.
Also, I was suggesting a July trade so Edmonton would pay Russell's $1M bonus - if it's a June trade then I take that 5th in a flash - on the condition that I have something better to use that $4M savings on.

Toronto is getting away with highway robbery here: if we've established previously that Benning is worth a 2nd Round PIck, and Nurse would be a coveted piece for any team to acquire, the return should be higher than two middle-six wingers. I'd like to see a Nick Robertson or higher pick coming back in that deal. Kappy and Mango aren't enough of a return.
Of course the Toronto trade is a win for the Leafs, but if you read what I wrote I said: "Add picks to flavour." And STILL we have a clueless Leafs fans saying "Leafs say no, just like every other team", see comment #6 above yours.

I don't think New Jersey and Columbus take those deals. Columbus is stuffed to the gills with LHD and would probably want a forward or multiple picks for Anderson, and I don't think New Jersey is supposed to be as bad as they've been this season. If they find a goaltender and someone that produces at least 50% of what Hall brought, they shouldn't be a basement team next season, and would thus have very little use for Neal. Nor do I believe he's going to hit 30 goals this season. I'm genuinely starting to have doubts that he hits 20, which only does us draft-day favours. I think the only way Neal finds himself on another NHL team is if he's bought out this summer. Based solely on his 5v5 production (he's below 4th-line production iirc) and implications regarding the expansion draft, I don't think it's entirely off the table.
The CBJ trade was suggested by a CBJ fan, if you read the Explanation and other comments you'll see where I got that from. As far as NJD goes, who knows. But Shero signed Simmonds last summer looking for
exactly the player-type Neal is this year, but so far it's not working out as hoped for the Devils. And Neal comes with ZERO expansion draft "implications" as he has no NMC/NTC and can thus be exposed to Seattle.

I don't like that Puljujarvi trade in the slightest. I very much believe a forward needs to be coming back in a JP trade, not a bottom-pairing defender when we still have Lagesson in the wings.
I don't either, really. But I got to the end of this and realised that (a) I don't have enough defenseman to cover for all the ones I'd traded, (b) it's unlikely Samorukov / Broberg will be ready to take on a top-4 position, and (c) I didn't have enough cap space left to sign a Muzzin or similar. So I made this deal knowing that both Hainsey and Graves have played a fair bit of top-4 this year and have done okay in that time. Also, I tried to give up more potential than I got because JP carries more risk than Graves IMO. The other thing is that Lagesson hasn't had a chance yet to prove that he's ready for 3LD, if that happens this season (no doubt it will) then that changes the need on defense drastically. Maybe JP gets included in the NJD trade and the prospect coming back gets upgraded? Or Detroit? Lots of options.
