I'm not an Avs fan, but I sure do love me some Newfie's who play hockey really well!

It was just a smart ass comment bc a few not his site before were acting like Cole Caulfield was an a different level than Newhook and would constantly just throw him in Hall deals like he didnt hold the same value. Some had Byram Newhook combo pieces which was wild.

While I think Byram for Connor is somewhat close in value, he’s not the player Chevy should be targeting. Our best prospects are LHD, with Heinola and Samberg are more than likely to be ready next year.

I don’t want to trade Connor, but if we had to it would be for a young top-4 RHD with term.

Agreed. If Connor moves, it’s for a Dumba/McAvoy/Jones type of player, not a prospect. Even so I’d rather trade anyone else but Scheifele, Morrissey, or Connor

apparently the same guy has an article this morning in the Free Press and says Bryram and a couple small pieces (his words) are linked in trade talks with Connor, not sure what those small pieces mean

IMO Laine>Ehlers>Connor, but yeah I don’t want to trade any of those three plus obviously Scheif, Morrissey, and Helle.

Yep cause the Avs need more goal scoring...laugh

Regardless of whether the value is fair or not, I don't think Connor is the guy the Avs should go after. Frankly they can acquire players in areas of need without using Byram so I don't know why they'd dangle his name as bait.

The core of this team is locked for an eternity still, no need to go all in right now. Avs are already a contender. No need to get more contender-y.

Landeskog top line struggles is the only reason why I think they look at this. Move him down a line, build in a contingency plan in case burakovsky can’t replicate his season

That and connors cap certainty during the mack window make tempting. But I agree, Connor would be over kill

To be honest evander Kane would be an ideal target bc of his goal scoring and physical edge play and would be a much lesser cost to get filling out the top 6

Landeskog kadri Kane line just for fun

it really is, and if something did happen with those pieces, I think you can safely say I get why both teams did it

Landy will be fine. Having a down year and got injured is all. Happens to a lot of players. He brings a ton of other intangibles to the team so when he's not producing, he can still help win games and that's the important part. Avs despite Landy's lack of production are one of the top scoring teams so adding more scoring seems like overkill.

If you want to build a contingency plan this year, get a pending UFA rental and reassess in the offseason. Not get a perennial 30 goal scorer on a long term contract. IMO (not that Kane or Connor wouldn't be awesome to see obviously)

I think he will be fine too. His season could be impacted by being a first time farther during it. Probably is not easy to balance as a pro athlete

Well it all depends on the package (if the trade happens). But adding Connor would be huge. That top 6 looks really good. With Graves, Girard and Zadorov the LD side is decent and I doubt Byram would pair that good with Makar and Girard on the 2nd pair is good enough so Byram could be expandable. Maybe add Jost a 2nd or Cole. Moving Zadorov to his natural side and Timmins on the 3rd pair. Not really sure how I'd feel about moving Cole before the playoffs but I think he'll eventually be the one who's got to go when Timmins is ready

it was just recently reported that the value for Alec Martinez is a 2nd and prospect, can grab another LHD with a little term left pretty cheap to fill in the 2nd/3rd pairing
LHD in the mid to late 20s are not that hard to pick up

Yes, that's my understanding of what Blake wants for him.

I wouldnt go as far as expendable, but with a fwd of that age and contract control, it makes the move palatable.
If Avs did this move at the TDL, I think adding a depth Dman like Borowiecki would make sense, 3rd pairing guy they can rotate in and out based on match ups and help the PK

offseason they could look at the Zads, Cole, etc type moves if need me to balance out the pairings and let Timmins onto the roster with ease
