They won't be capped out if you don't resign everyone off a bad team.

Letting any of those guys go, not overpaying haula and everything is fine.

I’d say no, but if Heinola keeps developing well that at one point maybe

Haula is on 50+ point pace, he'll make more than that on the open market

No guarantees rangers get heinola, and possibly a longer development project, and part of pionks development in wpg, has been injuries, and no pressure, nobody there to replace him at the moment. Going to have every opportunity in every situation, helps a player a ton.

He had a horrific leg break last year, and had an infection in the same leg this year, he's not injury prone, he just had a gruesome injur, he'll get more than 4 years ??

i suppose we shall see. he will be 29 before the end of the season and has one season above 15 goals and one season above 34 points, only 2 seasons over 26 points!

except he wont, because he was injured again. when you are doing "on pace for" when hes played less than half an 82 game schedule, it doesnt mean much.

I dont think they regret getting him but they probably regret getting bent over by him and giving him that contract.

No we don't. You gotta look at the bigger picture here...

The Rangers have been needing an energy forward like Lemieux for YEARS... they finally got one, and he'll be in NY for a while. While it's true that Trouba has been disappointing because of his offensive production, his defense has been better than expected, and that was a major need in NY. Add that to LIndgren and Fox and the Rangers have some defensive flexibility moving forward. Plus, Winnipeg's offensive core is better than NYR's offensive core (Laine, Connor, Wheeler, Ehlers and Scheifele vs Panarin, Zibanejad, Strome, Kreider and Buchnevich) so of course Trouba will put up less points than in Winnipeg.

Basically the deal looks like this:

A few months of K.Hayes + N.Pionk VS J.Trouba and B.Lemieux. Trust me, the deal is fine for NY. Lemieux is easily worth the few months of Kevin Hayes at this point.

You could certainly argue that Poink has played as well as Trouba this season. Rangers got could in the same "mistake" GMs often make. They trade for one year rental and then to justify the trade by putting in a long term overpaid extension. Now Trouba might be worth his 8m cap hit at some time but is worthy of being paid the 5th highest Dman?
