The King is Dead

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2020-21 Rangers
Henrik Lundqvist has been a great team mate and organization man; but if you don't buy him out, it will cost you Georgiev and Kreider. Deangelo is a unique talent, dumping Skjei's contract to clear cap space is essential. I'll toss in Lias Andersson as a sweetner to make the Edmonton deal happen. Final number is $2 Million under the cap, even with $12 Million in dead cap money.

Business side of things - not a bad idea to buy out Hank.

Morality/reality - brutal idea to buy out Hank. Doubt it happens

If you are willing to buy Lundqvist out at $5,500,000. Then why not retain 50% and see if you can trade him to a team in need of a goalie. It's a stop gap. There is only 1 year left so if there is a team in need they maybe able to find a partner. Just don't expect a return other than the relief.

Why does Edmonton do this? They don't need another left-handed defensemen.

Who knows if Hank would agree to waive his NTC, and can’t force it. That would be the reason for a buyout. I’m sick n tired of having dead cap hits due to a buyout. It’s selfish if he won’t waive, gets bought out and signs elsewhere.

If he wants to play he waives it. If he wants to retire he doesn't.
It's that simple.

I think it's premature to decide whether or not it's worth to move on from Lundqvist right now, just because there could be a team that makes an offer for Georgiev that is too good to pass up at the draft. Unlikely, but possible. Buying out Lundqvist would be even worse than simply leaving him on the roster, for NYR would likely be looking to spend not this offseason, but next, and a buyout would inhibit their ability to spend with the most flexibility. This decision should be made at the draft, not in February.

And we can agree to disagree on re-signing Kreider. I think given that he'll command AT LEAST 6 years at a rate of AT LEAST 6.5 million AAV with restrictive trading rights, and the fact that NYR are still in the rebuilding stage, failing to trade Kreider for good assets would be missing out on a good opportunity to continue with the rebuild properly. Having Kreider at 35 at what I think would be 7 million per year would come at the expense of losing younger talent (examples could include Buchnevich and Chytil).

If you are keeping Deangelo, good idea to move Sjkei. Nils will need a year in the A before the NHL.

Because he has more goals than any D-man on the Oilers, the same amount of points as Nurse and he gets zero power play time. 6'3' | 210 lbs and skates like the wind.

That Kreider deal could become an albatross sooner or later. Let's say this all hypthetically happens this offseason, then Staal is gone and you have 6 million, and still have to sign Shestyrkin in 1 year, Zibenjad in 2 years, Filip Chytil and Pavel Buchenvich as well. This team scares me with cap. Trouba could be gone this offseason.

I like Skjei well enough, but to have a $5M+ player on the 3rd pairing is silly when the Oilers (a) already have Russell ($4M) there, (b) the Oilers have several high-end LHD prospects pushing up, and (c) the Oilers have glaring weaknesses in other areas that won't be able to be addressed if they're overpaying their defense corps.

The Oilers have no interest in Skjei, they need to use Puljujarvi and the 2nd to get forward help. Try moving him to Montreal, who needs LHD.
