Myers to Leafs revisited

Created by: Trickster
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 10, 2020
Published: Mar. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I want to explore this again now that it seems that Myers is still not a regular on the the Flyers.

He has played 50 games this year.
He seems like the 7th/8th guy still.
He was sent down a few times too, this season.

Maybe if injuries will lower, he plays even less.

I still like him and value his potential.
What does it take to get him a trade? And what are the Flyers needs?

Have you changed your stance on Myers since earlier in the season?

I wouldnt give up a whole lot for him. Hes on a PDO bender but still a positive posetion player and a decent defender. I would trade for him if they were to run 11 forwards and 7 defenseman but otherwise I wouldnt. I wouldn't be unhappy if they had to give up someone like bracco and a pick or korshkov.

Yep. He's just another 7-8th D right now which Toronto has plenty of.

I am worried that he didnt make as much progress in his game as I thought he would.

Myers is a regular and apart of the top 4. He's been on the second pair with Sanheim for the past few months, now. He's out now because he fractured his knee blocking a shot. The main reason he was sent down in the beginning of the season was cap related with him being the only d-man who didn't have to clear waivers. With Myers being the only promising young RHD in the organization, you would probably have to get up more than he's worth.

We probably have more belief in him than anybody lol. We really don't have any other options for better young right-handed defensemen.

He onlyed 2 more games than Hagg, yes he played then Ghost. But how many games did he miss due to injury? And maybe that changes next season?

I am hypothesizing only.

Once again, he missed the first couple weeks as a cap casualty until they were sure about putting Nolan Patrick on LTIR. He also missed a couple games with a back spasms back in December. And regardless of how many games he's played this year, he's been in the top 4 for the last few months compared to Haag and Ghost who are getting 6th d-man minutes and scratched, respectively

What? He has been their #4 guy throughout most of the season, and his game has improved very nicely. He is far from a #7 guy on toronto, and he would probably slot next to Muzzin if he were traded there. I'd be asking for Kapanen at minimum if I were the Flyers. Top 4 defensemen go for top 6 forwards.

Myers is a lot better than the majority of people on here think, and he has room yet to grow.

Maybe later on since we're loaded with left-handed defensemen. He's also capable with playing on the right side in case we're desperate of a right handed dman, which we could be. If we ever do look to shop him then it won't be for another season or two.

I I think if Myers is ready to 2nd pair then moving Sanheim makes sense.
No one will give value for Ghost IMO, Flyers stuck with him.

It's more of our left defense prospect pipeline that's good. Our current left side could be more unstable if an injury occurs. It consists of Provorov on pairing one, Sanheim on pairing two, and Ghost/Hagg on pairing three. I personally don't want Ghost or Hagg to end up being on the second pairing as of right now. So yeah, until Cam York or Yegor Zamula become full-time, top-4 defensemen, Sanheim will stay put.

Also, Ghost played pretty good tonight, looking like he did a few years back. However, I think you're right that no one will give up much for Ghost since most teams don't recognize his talent or understand his situation with Philly.

Lol... not getting Myers for that!!

@Trickster no my opinion has not changed. Liked Myers since he was with the phantoms. He is a solid defender who moves well for his size with an excellent IQ.

Trouble is I don’t think philly has changed their minds either on how much they will need him in the future.

depends on the health of lindblom and patrick... but really removing Sanheim would just create the need on defense that the flyers had for years. This is the most stable their back end has been, and with Braun expiring, I wouldn't want to move anyone (possibly ghost) from that defense.

Sanheim is the flyers #3 guy, but has more value than #2 niskanen.

I think opposite. He is a roster regular now and he is bound to be our best RHD for years once Niskanen expires.
