I don't think Bordin is the right fit for the Hawks. Especially with Boqvist. Broding is a fine player, but he's not exactly defensive minded. Especially if you're looking to lose DeHaan and Maatta, then this D looks like it'll allow more goals than last year. But I'm a huge fan of that goalie tandem!

Uh what, Brodin is the definition of a defensive minded D. In fact he was our best defenseman last year. I think you are thinking of Dumba.

I still don't really like the idea of Brodin for Strome, but he's probably the best center we could realistically get if we traded Brodin.

Could definitely be wrong but if pretty sure Brodin is the definition of a defensive defenceman. In fact, the knock on him is his lack of offense. The sweedish connection with Boqvist could be awesome.

No worries we all have them. Brodin would be perfect to pair with Boqvist

Dumb comment. Both players will play in the NHL and pretty sure one of them is not on the Hawks.

If the Hawks select Askarov I'll be pretty pissed. Goalies are too much of a risk to grab in the top 10 even as highly rated as the Russian is. Goalies simply don't have the value that a top 6 offensive or top line defensive guy has. This especially is more important if the Hawks plan to trade Strome at which point the Hawks with the #9 pick should grab Lundell.

I still don’t think Brodin lines up with our contention window. He’s 26 right now (going on 27 in July), and I assume in his prime, while Strome is still young enough that I consider him not in his prime yet. Minnesota would be better off trading him to a contender for a first + at the deadline ( or even resigning him)…

If we were ready to compete now and in the next three years I’d say full send, but otherwise acquiring him is a bit premature.

I don’t know if I’m explaining myself properly, but 7-8 years of prime Dylan Strome is better than 3-5 prime years of Brodin for our current situation. (What if we signed him as a FA?

Players (Shaw) just don't retire because a team or fantasy team wants cap room.

It's widely believed by Hawks reporters, well respected ones, that the odds are greater he is done then plays again. Shaw has been making comments for the last 6 months that he's a father first and needs to focus on his long term health. I'm sure you're aware he's has 3 massive concussions in the last couple years.

I'm not sitting at a table with the GMs but I can promise you both will be playing in the league and pretty sure one isn't in a Hawks sweater. Both players are better then a fair amount of defensive players in the league. Are you going to tell me a guy like Dermott is better then either one?

De Haan is certainly worth his salary...very solid 2nd liner. Maatta is a great young 3rd liner and although paid high ($2M too much) his buyout is only $680K so whether the Hawks buy him out or he's a low risk option for a team in need of a very good 3rd liner that has cap room, does not really matter.

I'd like to have him on the team! But he has had a lot of concussion issues and has also stated he doesn't NEED to play hockey. I loves the game, but he now has a family and that weighs on his him. I wouldn't be surprised either way and no one could blame him.

I'd be willing to bet my left arm DET would take BOTH of them in a heartbeat. Madison Bowey, Mike Green, and Patrick Nemeth were ALL in their top 4. Mike Green more of a puck mover which isn't DeHann or Maata, but Madison Bowey was literally a cap dump to DET. The Caps needed to send a 2nd rounder to get rid of the guy.

I gotta believe he's going to be LTIRed, with those concussions, not retire.

Lundell is just a less skilled dach. If one of the other forwards is available I'm all for selecting them instead but if the choice is between lundell and askarov I'm leaning towards askarov.

Its pretty well known he's most likely not gonna play again because of the concussions. Which in that case he will retire and be put on LTIR for his last two years of his contract. Has nothing to do with cap room. This team above has 12 mil in cap space. We don't need shaw to retire to be under the cap and in fact most hawks fans would love to have him.
