It would leave Wild without anything resembling a top center, so that part is tough, but I'm not sure the Wild decline the offer. @JayTea, @MNBassman, @wabit, @TanSor, @RazWild, what do you guys think on this one?

Should be a yes for the Wild but definitely puts us in a tough spot for our top 6 C's. Guess we just have to hope Guerin would make a subsequent move for a center especially with 3 first round picks in this year's draft

It would entirely depend on the center Guerin is able to snag in a separate trade.

If, for example, it's Cirelli. Then I'd rather keep Staal, let him play out the final year of his contract as our 1C, and just let Cirelli play 2C. Mostly so as to make sure Cirelli could handle a top line role, and to give him a year to adjust to the new team and system, and then taking over the 1C spot in 21-22.

If it was someone like Barzal. I'd do this trade in a heartbeat.

Overall I don't see how the Wild say no to this either. We likely take that and run, especially before Fletcher comes out of his drunken stuper and changes his mind.

Maybe a good chunk of that is because I think it's an overpayment. At bare minimum he needs to drop the 3rd. I'd honestly think Laughton and a 2nd would be enough. But given that we're retaining and he's our only serviceable 1C, I think Guerin could certainly talk that up to a 1st. But unless he knows for certain he's got someone like Barzal in the bag, I'm not sure either.

Habs drop the picks, Philly keep Ghost, and just have a Juulsen / Ratcliffe swap?

Not throwing in a 1st for a 35 year old Staal, this trade screams Bobby Clarke.

I don’t care one iota what this trade does to the current center depth of the Wild - I wouldn’t pass up on this return for Staal in a million years!
