Description

In this scenario the Canucks lose in the play-in and then win the lottery. The Red Wings were rumoured to have immense interest in Stuetzle and if they really want to get them the Canucks can swing a deal!

In this trade VAN adds Loui Eriksson (creating cap space) and Detroit gives up their first round pick (#4) with Filip Zadina (hey if they really want Stuetzle....). The Canucks then draft Jamie Drysdale leaving the draft having filled two of their positions of weakness (LW, RHD)

Canucks then use Virtanen as a sweetener to dump Baerstchi to any team willing to do this trade.

With the remaining cap space Markstrom, Toffoli, Stecher, Gaudette and depth pieces are re-signed (values to be debated, but this is the ballpark numbers).

Free Agency arrives and the Canucks have $9.7M in cap space and are ready to go big game hunting! With the uncertain market and the need to sign Hughes and Pettersson after the 2021-22 season they sign Pietrangelo to a one (maybe two) year deal worth $9M.

Yes, this won't happen. Yes, this is a Canucks fan's wet dream. But dammit would it be nice!

That Detroit trade makes 0 sense.

Why would you trade away a guy who will likely be as good if not better than Petterson.

Also Gaudette should be getting 3M. Same wit Virtanen.

Pietrangelo only takes that if you give him 7 years.

Detroit passes when you include Zadina. If you want to do 1OA + Eriksson for 4OA then okay otherwise doesn’t make sense for us.

Canucks Perspective:
- You get the best defenceman in the draft, relieving yourself of the biggest weakness in your prospect/team depth chart.
- Yes Lafreniere is amazing, but Zadina will be good too
- Getting those two assets PLUS getting rid of Loui Eriksson's $6M for two years would be amazing
- That salary cap relief allows them to sign Pietrangelo and become a serious contender

That's understandable! Would be such blessing just getting rid of Eriksson in that deal. Adding Zadina was just the "dream" part of it

If the Canucks somehow, someway win the lottery and then the pick was traded in a cap dump, there would be riots again. The entire organization should be fired and the team would be sold.

In the environment we are in rn, if he gets offered that much, it might be the best option. Again this isn't a REAL scenario, it's a heavily biased dream scenario

I think the most absurd thing about this whole post is suggesting the Wings would take Stutzle over LaF....

Obviously, Petro is not moving his St. Louisian wife and one-year old triplets all the way to Vancouver for a one-year deal.

A 1 year deal would cost 14M minimum. The only reason he takes less on a longer term deal is cause we know he won't be as good when he is 35+.

St.Louis already offered him 8Mx8 which he rejected.

Should've signed earlier if staying in St. Louis was important. They locked up Faulk and Scandella and have 2M left in cap space for next season... Good luck keeping him
