Now What The Draft

Created by: ForsbergForVezina
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2020
Published: Aug. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So now that the Hawks won't be picking in the top 10, like we had thought they would for months, it's time to start thinking about some different guys to take at 17.

My pick would be Rodion Amirov. Heard lots of good things: competent in all three zones, strong skater, some goal scoring ability and a good penalty killer. If you liked Anton Lundell, this could be a nice consolation prize. He's a winger, which I think the Hawks need a lot more of in the system and seems to have a higher floor than a guy like Nylander. It's a safe pick, but a good one nonetheless.

Other options at 17 who will likely be there include Dylan Holloway, Mavrik Bourque, Noel Gunler or Kaiden Guhle. Guhle I actually wouldn't mind either. He doesn't have the upside of a Sanderson, who I initially (and still do) really want(ed), but he's really good defensively and could bring a physically presence to the blueline in a system full of small, offensive-minded d-men.

Finally, there's also a slight chance that Jack Quinn, Seth Jarvis or even Yaroslav Askarov fall to 17. If any of these guys are available, even Askarov, I think I'd take them without second thought. My love for Quinn's game is well known, Askarov is a potential starting goalie, something we desperately need and Jarvis is one of the more underrated players in the draft, who's game is devoid of many weaknesses. All of these guys are top 15 caliber picks and if they fall (especially Quinn), I think Bowman & Co should be thrilled they fell into their lap.

Anyways, I want to hear other Hawks fans on this. We didn't expect to be in this position, but here we are. Let me know who you want and why. Trades are kinda random, just made them to get under the cap, but the lineup is close to what I'd want to see next year

I wouldnt spend a top 10 pick on askarov but if its 15-20 and hes available I wouldnt be opposed. I like Peterka a lot.

Quinn and Askarov have little chance of making it past 15. If Toronto loses and doesnt win the lottery, Askarov surely wont make it past the Canes at 13. Although Nashville probably grabs him at 12.

I do think Askarov will drop. Even if EDM could draft him. Think about all the teams in the teens. NYR...shety. PIT...Jarry. EDM...Rodrigue. MIN...Kappo. FLA...Knight. MTL...Primeau. Its easy for us to say...meh theyre not Askarov, BUT the teens aren't always best available. Its filling needs too. I doubt MIN thinks Kappo is a bust right now. Why would they? They'd be more likely to draft a Quinn or Jarvis IMO.

CAR is NOT going to draft Askarov. They already have Pytor. Maybe...maybe NSH

Peterka isn't bad either, but I think they'd be reaching for him at 17. Totally agree with Askarov, although seeing that Minnesota will likely have two top 15 picks, I think they'd be smart to take him with one of them.

Having Koch doesnt mean we wouldnt go for the best goalie prospect since Price. Koch just happened to the 2nd best goalie prospect last year.

They're also playing with house money with that pick. Wouldn't be a surprise if they stretched for him.

Its definitely their weakness right now but after the headache kaprizov gave them, theyll probably be reluctant to draft another russian with a high pick.

Yeah, someone mentioned Carolina too, who could definitely take him if Toronto loses tomorrow. I think they're the Hawks best competition

Im keeping an eye on Jarvis, Holloway, Mercer, Bourque, or O'Rourke. Would prefer not Amirov but in Kelley I trust

I dont know that we would trade up for a guy that is going to take 3-4 years to play. If we are lucky enough to get the 13th or 14th pick, the talent will be there. If Askarov happens to fall to 13, I dont think the Canes pass up the opportunity. One of Jarvis, Amirov, Quinn, Askarov, and Mercer will be there and we'll be happy with any of them.

Haha I remember that some teams were against the play in because they didn’t want to face Kane and Price. I guess they weren’t wrong with both teams going thru

It might mean that you go for a position of need though. CAR doesn't need a goalie prospect.

If Toronto loses to Columbus, Carolina has a very good shot at picking before Chicago. Koch is a very good prospect and I hope is a starter. The Canes have a very defense with a decent prospect pool, a very young offensive core with a very deep pool, and then there is the goalie tandem. We have Koch and Makineimi with not much on the horizon until they are ready. Getting Askarov doesnt set us back in other areas.

Seth Jarvis is my guy. I think he would be great for the hawks. Obviously Askarov and Quinn would be great choices as well if they fall

As do I. Jarvis might not even have to "fall" per se. He's all over the place on mock drafts. Could be gone at like 12 or still available at 25 depending on who you look at. If he's there, that's my pick. Same go for Quinn and Askarov, although I doubt they'll be there at 17. Still really like Amirov though. The more I read about him, the more I like him. Definitely a little ways away, but once he gets here, he could be an excellent defensive forward to balance out all the offensive talent this team already has. Almost a lock to be available at 17 too.

That's what I keep thinking too. If he gets going at the same time as 8-19-20 and bring DeBrincat (assuming he doesn't get suspended) and Dach along with him, the offense could come close to matching Colorado or Vegas imo
