You can get futures for Marner easily. It just won't be all you're getting.

Marner is a 22 year old 90+ point top line all star!!!! Ant GM in the league would give up unknowns for what is known... asinine to say teams wouldnt give up futures for a bonafide point per game forward

Obviously the money is the obstacle that needs to be overcome in any hypothetical Marner trade. How that happens would be a huge determining factor in what the rest of the trade could be composed of. If they wanted the main value of the return to be made up of futures (which they very likely don't), they could easily make that happen.

honestly moving nylander is the smarter move. His contract is easier to let go of, the package offers for him were way better than marners. Plus while people complain about marners offense im good, the new matthews line was solid and honestly keeping it together is what dubas and keefe should prioritize. It can lead the charge for the leafs offense while Nylander can be moved to help out our blueline

Yeah he’s a 90+point player being paid as if he’s a 100 + point player. In a vacuum Marner is amazing but add that god awful contract and he loses value imo. The caps is 81.5 million teams that need him don’t have the cap and teams that can afford him aren’t giving up futures for him. So either you take a lesser value or you keep doing what you are doing now and hope for a better result. Either way Matthews is gone in 4 years.

Out of the “big 4” his contract is the only one that isn’t terrible. Seems like a lose lose trading him....

i mean tavares is fine and matthews its just the term length. If he signed for 8 years nobody would complain. Dubas should have saw what ranta got and paid marner that.

Cause sure 11mill is alot but islanders were planning on giving him 10mill and sharks 13-15 mill for 4 years. And tavares was busting his ass out there and i believe next season were gonna see why the C was given to him.

I'd be willing to bet he will hit 100 pts in the next year or 2.

You probably could but I don’t know why you’d want to. Creates a huge hole in the lineup and all you get back a ton of maybes. Seems like a big risk for a team trying to win now

Tavares was market rate. Doesn’t mean they should have done it/ needed him. Proof is islander have done better without him.

Matthews should have got 10mx8y
Marner should have got 9-9.5x8y
Nylander at first looked bad but his deal is cool.

They overpaid. Other side of the coin is holding out or they leave but the GM really made things hard by handing out massive money to his RFA while also handing out one of the highest (at the time ) contracts to a UFA. You do one or the other not both imo

Cool....Leon hit 100 and he’s way cheap. Pasta was on pace for 100 and won a rocket (Matthews hasn’t yet!) guentzel and Marner had similar ppg and he signed for 6 million. I’m excited to watch him score 100 soon smile

As a hawks fan I'd probably take this, we'd be in further cap hell but it would be worth it for Marner. We'd probably have to deal strome, too because we wouldn't be able to afford him if we got Marner so this would be a huge trade.

Hawks pass. Value wise it is good but we can't take Mainers contract. If you want to retain a bit (I know TOR won't) then the hawks could add a sweetener for that and it would be great
