I have never seen worse trades here

I would not take Subban with 4.5, leave alone giving up something.

I would also not trade Sandin for Dumba

and the last trade is bad too

Trades meant for them to take them..

Marner, Nylander and Engvall replaced by Hall, Reinhart and Thornton

Subban, Dumba and Ristolainen replaces Dermott, Holl, Sandin

Do the trades still look bad..

Better contract control with Hall and Reinhart..

Welcome to Capfriendly! Not going to sugarcoat it as there is no point in doing so based on the previous comments: the trades aren't very good. But y'know what; the vast majority of first posts aren't. The more time you spend on here and the more interactions you have, the broader your knowledge of player values on here will become, as can be said for everyone who joins/joined this site. Good to have you.

Welcome to capfriendly, don't take the insults too much to heart, people here tend to get very offended if you challenge their idea of a player's valuation. If you want some constructive criticism, here's what I'd tell you:

- You've overvalued Subban by quite a bit. He's regressed in the last couple years and NJ would absolutely jump at that offer.
- You haven't exactly addressed Minnesota's needs in that trade, but they maybe would take it based on value they'd receive and move some pieces of their own to collect some assets like draft picks.
- The Buffalo trade overvalues Reinhart and undervalues Marner. I'd have to check Buffalo's cap situation, but I would have to imagine they'd be happy to take that deal.

..and just say we do get NJ to take on the full 9 Million for 2 years (don't think they would cause it would be costing them 15 Million+ a year for Nylander over the next 2), who on the roster would you replace with the added 4.5 Million free'd up? Just picking your brain.

Cheers

Retaining 4.5 Million for 2 seasons or retaining 9 Million for 2 seasons?

Ive only been here a handful of days but this is my favorite post so far and probably will be for a long long time.
Side note. As a devils fan I take that one and run.

And 99% of the time someone is going to disagree. Most times it is a fan of the opposing team.
Same thing at hfboards. It is very rare to have teams or fans mutually agree on trades.

Which matches real life really. How often does a trade happen where both teams fans are happy?

The reasoning behind the trades isn't the main issue, imo; it's the values. Just paying prices that are too high for what you are getting.

As for that question at the end, teams can't retain more than half of a player's contract so that's immaterial.

Had to be creative to dump contracts to make it all work.. wouldnt be able to acquire more salary. Wouldnt be opposed of filing up the balance with prospects and picks

Great point, I was originally on the mark.

A for effort. This team is 6 million over the cap though with a full roster and you are about 2 million AAV short on Reinhart and Hall each, so you would need to free up 10 million in cap to be able to have this roster

Wrong, this is a 20 man roster

Aberg, Bracco, Verroneau, Malgin and Dano to waivers for the purpose of being sent down to AHL

We have just under $150,000 cap space left once you remove NJ's $4,500,000 from cap

Hall and Reinhart would be paid by bonus structure similar to all the other big contracts

Lol. I didn't see that you put the retention in the notes and did not just add it to the trade. Most teams role with at least 22 man roster. Also that still doesn't account for the extra 4 million at least you will need for Reinhart and Hall.

I have to learn how to do that, didn't know I could add it to the trade..

What extra 4 million do I need?

Don't their salaries fall under the cap?

Reinhart will get 7 on a 6 year deal and Hall will get at least 8

Overvalue for Reinhart in my opinion, I'm pretty sure Hall would take a 6m+ contract from the Leafs for a longer term contract
