okay. so Laine is worth this much but Nylander isn’t even worth Pesce and a 2nd? Nylander had 4 less points and more goals. can someone explain please?

I think the Jets would like to get Pesce, but it wouldn't involve Laine.

Not that I agree with the valuation but it probably has to do with Laine potting 30+ goals every season he’s been in the league (4 in total) while being only 22 vs Nylander @ 24. This will probably be the only time Nylander has more goals than Laine as he was shooting 39% higher than his career average. Although Nylander plays a better defensive game but I’d wager this has to do with uniting Aho and Laine together.

While that is true... does that really give Laine THAT much more value?

People just grossly undervalue Nylander cause he's a Leaf...

Take out Niederreiter and give Necas and a 2nd round pick.

Like I said, I don’t agree with the valuation. I’m also not the biggest Laine fan though considering he doesn’t know how to spell defense. I think it has to do with people having chemistry in international tournaments or during junior. It’s why you see Drouin to Colorado, Strome/Cat to EDM, Turris to Detroit, etc.

I don’t think it has to do with specifically the Leafs but more a weird fascination of uniting fellow country men (you don’t see it with Canadiens though), junior line mates, etc. It is odd the amount of Finns and Americans that play or get drafted for Carolina and Winnipeg

Laine's defense is fine, that narrative is such overblown nonsense.

We still need LD, and 2nd round looks pretty good.

Gardener is awful, he would a less useful Risto that doesn’t hit.

It’s just okay this year, he definitely has put work in this last year but you can’t say the first three years he was fine. I was a little harsh but I also have a large sample of my viewings during that time so I’m a little biased.

If we are talking the first few years, yeah he wasn’t good to great defensively. He looked disinterested if I’m being honest. This past year, like I said he looked better but I wouldn’t label him great. His game is maturing and that will be good for his next contract. He isn’t going to be nominated for Selke anytime soon.

I wouldn't say he looked disinterested in his rookie or sophomore season, his third season was 18-19 which was his roughest yeah and he did look disinterested a lot of nights then but from someone who watches every Jets game it was obvious something was going on in that dressing room last season so that might of been why he looked disinterested, really think it's what led to the Buff situation as well, this season it's debatable between Laine and Ehlers as to who was the Jets best forward.

He's almost a point a game player who's rounding out into a bit of a power forward, his assist totals have increased quite a bit and his defensive play is much stronger, couldn't care less if he wins a Selke trophy, biased trophy anyway.
