Offer sheet for Ryan Pulock and then some

Created by: Huwsie
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 26, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
How fun would it be to add yet another layer to the Lamoriello/Dubas/Tavares drama between the Leafs and Isles? An offer sheet on Ryan Pulock would certainly add some more spice to the off-ice rivalry....and if/when Lou matches, the 5.5M should make a dent in the UFA market for another RD.

Think the contract would have to start with a 6 for Pulock to even consider it.

Whatever sweet joy your getting out of thinking your hurting the Islanders and Lou, last I checked Islanders have been more successful than the Leafs since this squabble began

They sure have. I get no joy from the idea of hurting the Isles...I just think it's interesting how many points of contentious contact there has been between the two teams in recent years, and the drama of a legit offer sheet would raise the rivalry to all-new heights.

Welcome to cap friendly!

And do you really want to destroy the Leafs to offer sheet Pulock?

You traded away 3 key pieces for Bear and a 3rd

weird how defensive some leafs fans are at a GM who left a bunch of landmines before he left that their new gm had to fix before he could do any real work to make the leafs better

Could easily be true. No idea how much love he has for the Isles, and he might not entertain the OS idea at all. But seems like Lou's going to be in tough against the cap with Barzal, Toews and Pulock's contracts up and only 8M in projected space next year. He might not be able to get up to a number Poluck would accept either.

I'm not defending anything Lou did to the leafs, just merely pointing out a little fact

Yeah, maybe they add a prospect or another pick for that trio, but not sure Edmonton would see it as an overpay. It was rumours of Edm being interested in Freddy, to shake up their G tandem, that led to their inclusion here. But for the Leafs, getting back a young NHL-tested RD with upside is huge...and the 3rd from a team with near-identical points to repatriate the Leafs own 3rd from LA (so the offer sheet would work) was useful for this fantasy-land roster re-do.

Think moving on from Dermott and Liljegren works if (overall) you're adding Pulock and Bear, especially with Lehtonen in the mix next year happy to play LD or RD and putting pressure on the bottom pair to perform.

Its like Lou signed Morgan and was given invincibility. That Marleau contract, the 3rd year was non-sensical on the day it was signed. Yet he was given credit.

If Barzal gets an offer sheet we will see how great the God father really is.

Kings would only do that trade if you traded back Clifford's bargaining rights along with the Edmonton pick. If there's still a chance that Toronto could re-sign Clifford, they won't give up that pick.

I like how winning a round is now a huge accomplishment for some people. I don't care about winning a round, I want to win all the rounds. And I think Dubas has a plan to do it but it's still early in that process. I do think he along with everyone else expected more by now. Doesn't mean it's been a complete failure. The Islanders are a great coach and system that works in certain matchups. Their success will be fleeting and minimal and Lou is dropping landmines all over their cap as well.

Right? He has to move out almost 7-10 million in cap to fit his RFA's if they want security and he's talking about bringing in Parise. Lou is going to tell those young kids they need to earn their due and by the time he realizes he's outdated, his team will be in huge trouble.

In this scenario, there's no chance to re-sign Clifford. But if they did re-sign him, the Leafs get their 3rd rounder back and the Kings get the 2nd rounder instead, so the Leafs would have what they need to do that offer sheet anyway....but again, there's no Clifford for the Leafs in this scenario.

Plus, this scenario takes place after this off-season's free agency is underway, so Clifford is a UFA at that point already...and Leafs would have no bargaining rights to trade.
