Adding D help and freeing up for ARI

Created by: GFD1996
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 26, 2020
Published: Aug. 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TRADE DESCRIPTIONS:

ANA: 1st rounder in 2021 (I think 15th overall is a bit too much to give up fro Manson), a promising D in Dermott with room to grow, a nice winger to add some depth and even could improve with a clean bill of health for the new season, and young prospect who clearly has talent for a rebulding team like ANA to give a shot to

ARI: With their suspension and serious cash issues due to COVID, taking Hossa's contract off their hands and Hjalmarsson's big contract gives them breathing room financially. Also a decent 3rd pairing RHD and a good bottom six forward who could develop more. Overall big benefit for a financially troubled Arizona team.

NJ: Cap move mostly for TOR. Also I really like Zacha as a 3rd line C. For NJ Kerfoot and Zacha are a near wash excluding Kerfoot's up and down season in TOR and they add more draft capital and a decent prospect in SDA.

Also in this scenario I would hope TOR would use the 15th overall pick to take RHD Braden Schneider and with his style and development hopefully he can come into the lineup the year after and maybe take over for Hjalmarsson or if the Leafs re-sign Hjalmarsson for another short team deal he could take over for him in the next 2-3 years.

yeah sucks though Hjalmarsson would be a nice add.

honestly with the coyotes situation i see real potential for a good trade. If somehow dubas could get chycrun without moving rielly that be a victory moment

The first rounder is in 2021. Not the PIT acquired one.

Fair enough. But MLSE has massive financial strength and Hossa is just one year. I think Dubas needs to consider it if the opportunity came about.

Not sure if this is true. Maybe he just wants other teams to pay more.

With Covid, there are teams that actually struggle financially, the Leafs not so much. Toronto is the one team that does not care to pay someone 6 million a year to be injured for 2 years.

Even worse,

I think there are some good D prospects next year and a goalie better than Askarov in my opinon.

But why would the Yotes move him when he is only owed 2m and hossa far less?

I would love to add him too but why not make it easier? Offer Holl. 5m for 3 years isn’t horrible. Or better yet... some picks... which they would welcome.

Dubas wants to accrue cap space for some big TDL moves.

its clear he wants a Muzzin like Dman and thats not gonna come cheap.

2 scenerios i see

Move Johnsson, sigh Gudas/Demelo/Braun as a ufa and use the pick to draft schneider
Make a big trade for a muzzin like dman (parayko, ellis, pulock, etc)

Arizona is a easy no. They can put Hossa on LITR just as easily and he only carries a $1M actual salary. You Leaf fans are crazy to think you'd get Jammer for two players worth a 2nd and 3rd round pick on a very good day being Holl and Engvall's value at best.

? where is OEL in this lul its Hjalmarsson. Coyotes rn are ****ed with their situation and not only have no cap space but got no 1st this season and next season. with the addition of no 2nds.

Hjalmarsson for Holl would give them cap space and engvall is a cheap player for them.

I said Jammer. Holl is hot garbage. Jammer is easily worth more then Holl even as a 1 year rental.

Just because the Yotes need to move a player or two doesn't mean it's a fire sale.

What a massive overpay for the now middling Manson.
More LTIR nonsense. Hossa doesn't help or hurt Arizona's or the Leafs cap.

In this type scenario it doesnt make sense anyways... A team isnt going to to trade an LTIR contract to save that million dollars and at the same time retain a million dollars on a traded contract. That doesnt help them at all

Hossa's contract is insured. Actual cost to them is $200k. No benefit for them. I could see them taking Holl back to help the numbers work, but if they move Hjalmarsson they'll want some actual benefit. I imagine 30 other coaches would love to add him. He or Demers would be a good target for the Leafs, but they'd presumably want at least a second back or corresponding value. More if they tie up a retention slot.
