Hopefully a better Parayko trade

Created by: GenXHockey
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 25, 2020
Published: Aug. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not exactly better for the leafs. Would consider adding Sandin in place of Lilly and Robertson for a lesser prospect.

Unfortunately this is what blues would look for if they move Parayko. No cap in return. Two great prospects and a first. 2nd is to add value and aquire Barbie who I believe is worth a 3rd.

My personal opinion... this is a horrible move for the leafs. Plenty of more cost effective ways to improve the defence in trade and ufa. Which I think dubas will lean towards as well.

Honestly idk if the Leafs would ever wanna give up Robertson. The guy has limitless potential and he's on a bargain bin deal for 2 more years. The guy isn't even 19 yet. Even if the blues did take that deal, I feel like that's a massive overpay for likely 2 years of Parayko. Robertson is gonna be a star

Defensively... yes. He is better in my opinion. And is good in the neutral zone and okay in the ozone.

Why not just Sandin +pick for Parayko?

As it says in my explanation... yes it is. But that is the only way you get Parayko. This is why the blues move Parayko over steen. It’s the reason Vancouver would look at offers on Boeser over eriksson.

If they would except that sure. PersonallyI wouldn’t move on parayko. Much cheaper options out there.

Just sick and tired of seeing the same beat up rumoured trade that doesn’t work with Johnson’s cap hit.

Really I switched Johnsson for Robertson. I added a 2nd and acquired Barbie. Figured that would get leafs nation up in arms.

Maybe the real solution is to target a cheaper Dman.

Just wondering what your opinion on this.

Army finds middle ground with petro and Tank is missing the first 1-2 months of the season is the situation.

I'm not sure I know enough about Robertson. I know he is small, but he's also a goal scorer. Perhaps you can fill me in a little more about the young man? Lily, I think will likely slot in as a 2nd pairing defenseman like Parayko is, but there's no way anyone should expect him to shut down an offense the way Parayko does. That would not be fair to expect. Can Lily score 10-15 goals a season at the NHL level? If he can, then I'd make the argument he'd be valuable in the trade. (The big Colt55 is my favorite player, so it kills me to say that.) The first would be a must, and I read above that someone said Barby is worth a 3rd. I would disagree based on watching him grow up. He's really skilled and certainly worth a 2nd round pick. The reason his skills aren't seen much is because the Blues are so deep at center that he's forced into a 16 minutes-per-night fourth line role. He does that very well too. If Toronto had him and placed him on the 3rd line with one or two of your jackrabbit scorers, I would not be shocked to see him put up 15-20 goals and 45-55 points. The kid can play. He also brings physicality with him, and Toronto definitely needs that too. Good to chat with you, @Jamiepo .

This is definitely a deal they'd have to think about. I think sandin is a better fit for the team. Blues could run him and/ or perunovich as a replacement for dunn. So we could move him for help on offense, while senko is out.

Solves a lot of problems for stl not sure how they could say no. I'm pretty high on Robertson, and as long as Liljegren sticks as an NHLer, i think it balances things out well. Might be too much for TOR to part with but def the kind of package that releases Parayko IMO.

Liljegren has changed his game up. Good two way guy. Very good at separating the puck from players. Would say his ceiling would be a spurgeon like player. With more size. He is a very effective puck mover but hasn’t really shown much offence at the nhl level but it’s a small sample with a player that still needs to get his confidence.

Robertson Could be anything. Kid has a great attitude and strong work ethic. Could be the next DeBrincat. But he is at this point an unproven prospect. Making it into the leafs top 6 in the play ins does show something though.

I put the value on Barbie as a 3rd on what he has shown. I believe like you said he does have a higher potential.

I agree. Rather keep Robertson. We can find another defence man and keep our future Calder winner (haha).

Personally I wouldn’t do it. You know I love Parayko but this is certainly not the smart move for the leafs. But this is the package the blues need to consider moving Parayko over steen.

I agree. Plenty of options in both ufa and trade. Ones that would allow us to movevlilly keep our first and select Schneider in the up coming draft.

Well if Robertson can turn into that level of scorer, especially with the question of whether Tarasenko ever returns even close to what he once was, I'd say this package to two young studs who are cheap and two good picks would have to be seriously contemplated. Like @A_K stated above, this "would be the kind of package" that causes Army to think deeply.

Yes, and moving Steen is no sure thing. The guy is a legacy player. He has full say in a trade. He revamped his game to help win the cup as a 4th liner. He's done so much for the organization, I would think loyalty to him would at least be thought about by Army. And then if Army wanted to trade him, Steen still would have to agree. He'll be in the St. Louis front office within the next three years.

Don't blame ya. I think Robertson will be Gallagher but with actual finishing ability. That's a dangerous player and an ELC for 3 yrs. There is risk with projection, but the rest of that package would be way too sweet to pass up. I think Sandin or Robertson and the 15oa easily should get a foot in the door for Parayko but theres no telling if the Blues mgmt would listen on it.

I have to agree that Sandin, Robertson, and the 15 OA would be enough to pry 55 away, but all of that depends on if Petro comes back. I'd probably prefer the trade with Lily and the additional 2nd though, as the Blues are getting fairly top-heavy at LHD. Mikkola and Perunovich are close. Walman can play tomorrow. Gunnar and Marco give you two seasoned vets. And we still have Dunn as well.

The only way I'd consider trading Robertson IF it gets you a young defenseman like Fabbro for example.

As for parayko I really like him and would love to have him but I just don't think the leafs can get him without severely overpaying. They're better off trying to get larsson or savard and look a player like honka or niku who have some potential and wont cost a lot to acquire. Maybe not ideal but better than they finished the season with.

I’d rather keep the first (and get Schneider) and trade lily too. He’s declining in value and might never be a top pairing defence man (0r even top 4.

I like Lilly, but if you are going to box him out by adding a defender on the right with term you might as well move him and have Schneider come in and push out Holl. To be honest I think Lilly could do that as soon as mid season. Playing with and learning from muzzin would boost both his confidence and development.

That’s why I opted for Lilly. I think it fills your need with a bottom pair defender who will develop into a top 4 and hopefully Faulk can be moved later to make room.

It’s likely that he may play none depending on what moves are made. But dubas doesn’t make the line up. Keefe does. I can only hope he see’s the benefit in moving Lilly up with muzzin. I mean seriously Lilly>Holl and it’s not really close. He just lacks the confidence. Look what it did for Holl....
