Which is silly but you're probably right. You build from centres out.

I'm not arguing the clause of Gaudreau vs Cozens as you're in the ballpark. But it doesn't make sense from team needs. Buffalo NEEDS a 2c and essentially has since they traded R'OR. The only reason to trade Cozens is to get a proven c back. Not an all star winger as their wing depth is fine

Wasn't it reported that Lehner was 5x5 with vegas?

I agree, but I don't think Monahan is a C you build around. I think he's more valuable to a contender or a team who can put him behind a real 1C.

Brady also just has so much more room to grow. Brady was one of the best individual offense creators in the league last year, and he did it with no help. He's gonna be money in the bank 30+ goals once he has a team around him.

Unofficially yes which means you never know! (especially with Dallas being up 3-1 maybe things have changed)

Frieds announced which makes it more or less official lol. Plus who are we kidding - Calgary mgmt would never spend money on a real coach.

We cannot trade our best prospect on ELC contract with an internal cap of 70 million. Although I would not trade even without internal cap.

I didn't necessarily mean this trade just the concept of a winger being untouchable. The last winger who should have been untouchable was Ovechkin and probably Kane. Outside of that? You build teams around C's

B Tkachuk looks like an excellent piece and can easily be a core piece to a championship. But he needs the 1c on that team

I agree that the 1C is probably the most important piece in a rebuild, but I completely disagree with your point about wingers not being untouchable. I think there are wingers who are so important to their team, that they would be absolutely off the table in terms of trade. I'd put Both Tkachuks in that conversation, Pastranak, Svechnikov, Rantanen are all in that tier. Not that I'm suggesting Brady is on the level of all those guys in terms of skill, but I think there are wingers that you don't even pick up the phone for in trade talks.*

Also I agree that Ottawa needs a top C for Brady, but that's likely going to be taken care of at the draft. They're basically guaranteed one of Byfield/Stutzle, and it sounds like it will be Byfield.

*speaking in terms of actual realistic expectations. Obviously you can come up with hypothetical scenario that would be too good to pass up.

Agreed but like you said Brady isn't in that conversation in my opinion he hasn't done enough to be considered that valuable. Matthew is quickly becoming the face of the franchise here but with #3 and #5 I think Ottawa will have a new identity in 2020-21.

Therefore Brady could be had in theory for the right price smile

Brady is the identity this team will want. Highly skilled, and goes to war every shift. He's probably the future Captain. As I said, untouchable.

Would the Flames have traded Matthew after two seasons? He was at the same level Brady is now, but he was clearly not available because he clearly showed the potential to be much more than what he was at the time.
